I have always believed that if you are playing a fellow pro in a UK tournament then you do not go for golden breaks. Is this not an unwritten rule?Played a tournament yesterday and a couple of high ranking guys went for them.

What difference does it make who the other player is?
Thankfully it appears that the novelty of GB's has worn off. Lets face it, there's nothing more embarrasing on funkypool than getting a GB on uk 8ball!

Marcus stop chatting nonsense. You win by any means, if that means GB somebody so be it. I wont lose any sleep at night if I GB a pro.

I actually said "What difference does it make who the other player is?"
Getting a GB may win a game, but its makes you look like a real amateur, and after all, who really cares about winning, we're here to play pool aren't we? Personally, i'd feel sorry for the guy!

The original post was a question in the queries section of the forum, not a statement of fact.I had to laugh at being called an idiot by someone of such sub-canine intelligence as Mr scare crow.

In my opinion, potting the black off the break should result in a rerack, with no changes in rank and the same person to break.

I agree totally Mach 3, butGolden Breaks are a "funkypool rule", and as such unlikely to change.
It is interesting how, because of the Golden Break Shot, GB's on UK pool are now a sign of poor sportsmanship and lack of ability.
This is unfortunate for those who have got one truely by accident!
Almost everywhere, potting the black off the break is a loss, however to be fair, the re-rack option lets people still get thier GB, but doesn't affect the game..
Maybe someday! LOL!

I got one totally by accident once... but the cue ball went in as well. So it was an instant loss.

I agree with spinner, i can do GB's but refuse to do them now. I prefer to win a game honestly and sportsmanlike.
Imagine a scenario where everyone can do GB's and thats all that happens. Cos lets face it if you go for GB's then you want one every time. Wouldnt the game get VERY boring after a while. Its not skill at all, its basically trying to find a glitch in the software and taking advantage of it.

Getting a golden break is fine. As long as the opponent doesn't do it twice then I see no problem with it.

I got a GB on Uk (by accident) yesterday and immediately said sorry to my opponent, because I felt embarrassed. To win by a cheap, skill-less one-trick-pony-shot is not only unsporting, it smacks of desperation.
It isn't a thing a pride or achievement anymore, and GB 'masters' earn pity rather than respect.

"such sub-canine intelligence as Mr scare crow" lmao thanks kong....
i feel i should alter my statement ^^^^ or add to it!
i agree with u kong that you should try for gb's in certain cases.... if i respect the player im playin (and by respect i mean respect and like, and actually know) then i will not try for gb... but i do feel that you should be able to do it on here as it is very legit, i mean you even have a table 1st to 50 ranking with gb's!!!
i also feel that you should not try for gb's 24/7 as ur break.... pointless and only after cheap win...

there has been too many posts on golden breaks so i'll put it simply.
you can't tell players to stop, they can do what they want, i can clearly understand why it should be stopped. but it cant, the players shot is the players decision.
note: i dont know how to do them!

Unless you take away the incentive.
Make it a re-spot and nobody will bother. They can still get 'GB' on their record, but the game can continue. Then everyone is happy - the Gb'er gets their GB, and both players get a fair game with the best player winning.
I say BESt player, cos too many ppl are high in the rankings on the strength of 100+ wins on GB's (that puts them at least 100, maybe 200, ranking points higher than their actual proven skill level).
Note: I think 're-spot,' rather that 're-rack,' cos a rerack could mean some players continuing to go for GB's on 2nd and 3rd breaks.
