Well, so far anyway! I'm enjoying this so it will be an ongoing project!

As a few of you may know, following a couple of threads where people are wanting various restrictions put on games limiting who can enter etc, i have been conducting a survey for an hour each day at lunchtime, where (in between tourney games) i have been creating a ranked UK pool game called "OVER 800".

The Results :

Over 10 days, 139 people entered

126 over 800

7 under 800

3 under 750

2 newbies both of whom left immediately when i said "this game is aimed at those with 800 rank or above"

1 person, around 700, who put me in ignore and left after getting beaten 4 times whilst hurling abuse.

I think the fact that less that 10% of the people who entered were below the requested level, and only one was in any way awkward, proves that all you have to do is simply name your game accordingly and be polite, then you should attract the players you want with no hassle...

yes it isnt many people tht wont leave but there is the odd percentage and even being polite to them they still give u abuse n they wont leaeve until u played them n all they keep sayin is ''i will beat u''

well, like i said that happened once out of 139 people, and i dealt with it the simple way.

i beat em

But given the extreme rarity of this occuring, it wouldnt seem to be something Nick should be wasting his time on, not to mention how it could incovenence other player who dont like the idea of restrictions.

Its also worth metioning that when i started this, my rank was around 680, not one over 800 player was bothered.

ok but this website grows more everyday so there will b more members under 800 so more players will b lookin for games and seein as over 800 is pacific game (dont no how to spell pacific) then tht game might b the one tht is waitin for an opponent the most while all the others r full so people will just join lookin for a game

Can you sum up the relavence of all that.. and the point of doing it all for me? Without going into any agruments about not having your pm window pop up infront of your monitor or the like.

It will be helpfull as i read all 4 posts so far, and i dont really get why u did this, and what for.

I did it because, during discussions about "boot buttons" or options to limit the rank of people who could enter your game, the people asking for such things said that naming the games etc didnt work, and that poeple followed you around etc.

I tried it one night and found that everyone who entered was fine.

Since there is plenty of time between tourney games i decided to create a game as described above each day and keep a log of what happened.

I was going to wait for another thread, but since you mentioned it, not one single person complained about chatting in the PM window (which is how i chat to everyone) and none whatsomever mentioned it popping up in front of the window.

However, thats nothing we didnt already know!

In short, i was just finding out whether the option to limit rank etc was really required. Obviously not!

Spinner's proved some good points here.

1) My view's been changed and I now agree there's no need for a kick button.

2) If you treat ppl with respect, they'll behave the same way back. If you give em a mouthfull and treat em like dirt, don't then expect them to be decent and leave your game.

But seriously, i wondered why you were setting up these 800 games, and now i want the rank back you stole!

Yes Spinner, you forgot to mention one of the plus sides to this evil experiment was a nice little rise in your rank. I personally feel this was planed from the start, and the Baron Frankenstein angle you're using is nothing more than a front for more sinister activities!

Seriously though, some good points made here, and the proof is in the pudding so to speak! I always thought the problem was over amplified in the first place, and this proves that most people join with good intentions when you create a game. Sure, you get the odd bad egg, but it's very rare when you consider the amount of games you play/create in the space of a week.

i think it is anoying when u create a game like " 800 and over " and a newbie or some one with a low rank joins and u ask them to leave but then are consistant to stay..they always say " y u chicken tht i will beat you " i usualy play them and beat them jst to prove that they cant beat me..its really funny when they leave in a mood when they lose ...

What if a restriction can be put on the game creator. It should ask min. rank than you rate it what ever you want. this boot button will get abused i can see that.

i personally think you have been very lucky in regards to you litlle experiment!! everytime i tend to make a "only 800 rank or over" i seemto get idiots, so it all depends on the people online as far as im cponcerned!!

HOWEVER if nick was to spend a lil bit of time and create a feature where only actual 800 rankers or above are allowed into the games u create "over 800 rank", then ther won't be any problem and none of this constant experiments which im sure EVERY one is getting extremely bored of!!

But, since that wasn't enough for some, and since i am happy to listen to anyone, i decided to try it and, as pool_life said, "the proof is in the pudding", a rank limiting button simply isnt needed.

As for "constant experiments", i've been on here since Sept 2002 and haven't seen any before so they cant be all that constant!
