If one player doesn't want ranked, then it would remain as friendly I guess..

Edit: It could be something like the tournament invites. "User wishes to have this tournament game ranked. ACCEPT/DECLINE".

I also think the ranked tournaments should not outnumber or even equal the non_ranked tournaments

There are some exceptional players about who really shine in tournament play. I don't think they should have the chance to win 10-15 points every 2 hours, do you?

i think having no newbies in tournements is a bad idea, when i wer a newbie most of my first 100 games wer in tournies, cos i dont particurly like playing the same person 5 or 6 times in a row, so if i wasnt able to play tournies i wouldnt have played much at all which wouldnt have been a great loss i know but im sure there are other ppl out there who would have stoped plying if it wernt 4 the tourneys and who are actualy good players

When i 1st started on here there were no tournies, i stayed in the chat rooms for about a month an got to know the people ^_^

Ranked Tournies would be good...1 a day or somethin.

Or if there could be 7 special tournies.

Ranked, Marathon, 1 Frame Only, etc. And these would be placed randomly across the week. Each week would be different so not to exclude any players. There could be a separate acheivement for special tournies and normal tournies.

It's a good point, but one that adds weight to the argument of not having repeated ranked tournaments.

A few days ago __ediss__ won 3 tournaments in a row. So let's imagine he earned 40 to 45 ranked points for those wins. Now, if he also played games in between those tournys and won, he could be looking at 60-70 points for a days work!!

I think this would make a mockery of the rankings system, and the only risk for a seasoned tourny player would be an average 4 point drop and a quick exit.

How about making the 'marathon' a ranked tournament. At least that way you don't have players going into a points overload, and they have a whole week to lose them again

Thing is tho, in a tourny ur gunna get at least one good player, chances are you mite lose more rating when you win a tourny than if u were knocked out 1st round. ^_^

Could make it fixed, for gettin knocked out in a certain round...

-3 rating 1st round
-1 rating 2nd round
+1 rating 3rd round
+3 rating 4th round (and 5th if it happens)
+5 rating quarter final
+7 rating semi final
+10 rating final
Tourny win and +10 rating winner

Tournaments are fun yet competitive, there is no need for ranked games - friendlys are fine, if you are good enough you will do well and win.

I do however think that if a tournament is won the runner up should achive a ranking of :

Runner up: +2.5

WINNER: +4.0 and a tournament win on there achivements.

So lets leave it as a friendly compition between friends.

Yeh kinda agree with Shaun. Tournaments can be friendly but the winner achieves a rank +20 maybe?

WOWZA, ive had people agree but +20, over the top..hehe. Maybe 20 divided by 4..thats the amount of rank the tournament winner could achive.

+30 maybe then ok ill meet u half way, +10? comeon, uve just won like 10 matches!

Ok divide 10 by 5 and times that by by 3.5 and i think the answer should be around +7.5 to 8.

Whats the point in having fixed changes?

Just leave all the games ranked as normal, so if you win you will have won approx 10 games therefore have increased you rank between 20-30 anyway!

The fundimental thing is that it would make the tourneys more competitive because the cowards who are scared of loosing rank to newbies wouldnt play.

Rate them all, plain and simple!

Rank +/- will obviously be left up to the people with brains so I'll butt out for now

just like to add...in tourny' even the gud players who win the tourny lose a game per round most of the time so if u think bout it...u'll lose more points than gain (has sumone already mentioned this cos am lost =S)

ranked tournies are great idea, ive bin ponderin the idea for ages but didnt make any advances of puttin it across. maybe alternate ranked tournies with friendlies? or make both available at the same time? ive no idea the amount of work that would involved to make both available at the same time so forgive me if it seems unfair to admin.

also, on alan_shearer's note, i dont think all tournies should disallow newbies, only the ranked ones (no offence to true newbies, its the ones who have previous names that are the problem). the other option could be crossreferencin IP addresses, maybe store names wit the same IP address into the same field on the database or something?
