Why don't you make all frames played during a tournament rated ? It would add a lot of extra movement on the ladder and it would add a little extra incentive for all of the "average" players to try and gain a few extra points at the expense of the pros. I think anything that makes the ladder more fluid is a good thing...but that's just my opinion !! What do you think ?

I disagree. It is more fun having it friendly as we like to have a good old natter and the way i seem to see it is that tournys are alot more competitive than ranked games.

Say i play a novice in a tourny and its ranked - say i lost - bare the thought -4.33 or something - no thanks - id never play a novice ranked apart from by beloved brunette. Thats my thought

I've always wondered why they're not ranked. It seems silly that they're not really, after all they are more important games aint they?

I think the ratings alteration should be doubled during tourneys to add a little more spice and fun to the games..

Yeah?

In response to ice cool...thats my whole point. It adds a little extra spice to tournament play. A pro should never avoid playing a novice just because he's "afraid" to lose an extra point or two. It also means more movement on the ladder and that has to be a good thing. I'd like to hear what Nick or the other mods have to say on this.

It's a good idea, and have no personal objection why ranked tournaments can't exist.

This will force people to play people ranked at different places. Yes it's possible you might lose a 4 odd points, but realistically you should not lose often to players ranked a lot beneath you.

Maybe a choice of ranked and unranked tournies?

I reckon ranked tournies and non ranked alternating at 7pm. The marathon tournament could be switched from Saturday 10pm to 7pm to account for the odd day.

I.e... at 7pm for each day..

Mon, Wed, Fri - Ranked Tournaments
Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday - Non Ranked.
Saturday - Marathon.

Edit: Otherwise you could add another dialog box giving the option to play ranked (both players must accept) before playing the game ?

Bloody brillaint idea! But.. what if a player wants ranked and the opponent does not? Does it automatically play friendly? Apart from that..very nice idea!

If ranked tournaments were to go ahead i see no reason why a ladies tournament couldn't go ahead .

Yes funny you should ask that! What if you play in a ranked tournament and the person you play is a professional or virtuoso on a different name, oops before you know it you have been decieved and lost a good few points along the way.

I think thats a great idea alan.

Tournaments should all be ranked in my opinion, and not avaliable to newbies, although that wont stop pros from playing on a dif name, it will discourage them, because they will have to play 100 games before they can enter which will give people some idea of how good they are!

With that out the question, i cant see any argument to it, if you are scared of playing novies/intermediates, you shouldn't have the right to play tournaments...in my opinion.

Maybe you could vote what you would like before it started, so if most people wanted it ranked it could be ranked.

I think a new variation of tourneys is an excellent idea... Ladies, ranked, non ranked, beginner, etc... If people want to be silly and enter the tournement that doesnt apply to their status then the tourny would have no worth and they can be called a cheat in my book.

One of the incentives for guests to sign up and become a member is the chance to enter the tournaments.

As long as you have a name you should have a game!!

If we are given the option to enter ranked or non-ranked tournaments everybody will be happy.

I personally don't like the idea of ranked tournaments as standard, but i would be happy to have the odd flutter, regardless of the players ability or ranking.
