If you sign a player that you don't think is good enough, why not let them join another team who will have faith in them?

The teams that win the leagues are those who would play all their players in every single game if they could. They focus on getting the games played, rather than keeping their worst players out of the harder fixtures. It's how Uprising and Pro's work to win leagues, same for MVP, Untouchables, Wipeout, etc when they all won the league.

Any views on whether...

1) the FBL continues next season?
2) the current FBL format remains for next season?
3) the format changes?

Re 3) there is one idea to float which moves the format even more towards beenjammin's preferred scoring system.

The number of games and the number of game types is unchanged. Instead of a straight two points per individual match win, it will be the racks won that scores towards the league table.

Importantly each individual match has an upper limit of 5 points that can be scored..

In the Straight games, to keep the points on a par with the other game types, the total margin of any 2-0 defeat will decide the losing player's score. Across the two racks, any player losing 2-0 and scoring less than 20 from both games scores 0 points, losing 2-0 and scoring between 21 and 40 from both games scores 1 point, losing 2-0 and scoring 41 or more from both games scores 3 points. Where the overall score is 1-1 then it will be four points each whilst any player winning 2-0 scores 5 points.

For example

Player A 5-1 Player 1
Player B 5-3 Player 2
Player C 3-5 Player 3
Player D 4-4 Player 4
Player E 5-0 Player 5
Player F 2-5 Player 6
Player G 4-4 Player 7 (a 1-1 draw in Straight)
Player H 5-2 Player 8 (a 2-0 win in Straight where the losing player lost 17-35 and 19-35)

Overall score is 33-24 which is carried forward to the League Table.

The benefits to this are that players who lose, but narrowly, are rewarded for that. Only competitive frames score and not 'dead' racks. It still allows for full and proper squad rotation as you can select players that will win a particular fixture rather than players to win each and every rack.

The negatives - it woud be yet another format change. Also because it is a format based on individual contributions, it would not guarantee that any team that won all of its team fixtures would win the League. But that is the case in the current format now anyway.

thanks everybody, and well done to everyone else who never lost an indiv match, I'd be interested to see it figured by frames though, we may have a single winner that way

I'm not very fond of the idea above. I see where you're going with the 5 point indiv match cap, remove the possibility of big whitewash scores right?

I think it's too heavy-handed though at 5, it makes it so an indiv match win only rewards one point more than a draw does (5 opposed to 4). I just don't think that's an accurate reflection of the games played. Not a very big step toward my preference at all, more so if the cap was 6 or 7.

Besides, this indiv match scoring thing is keith's baby, and I find it an interesting/different way of doing things. With 4 competitions we need variety. In one sentence, I prefer unchanged over the 5-point-cap frame counting thing.

It was actually my baby but I will forgive you for that.

It is not a cap. Its a point per rack won within the individual match. The match is won when 5 is reached as it is currently.

It maintains a key element that any win is worth exactly the same, regardless of the margin. All it does is reward the closeness of a defeat. Almost like losing bonuses. I have nothing at all against 5-0 whitewashes in a 9 rack game and this certainly would not do anything to remove them.

However just to make it clear. This is not a change that will happen. Its just an alternative idea for people to consider.

You see my problem with it though, right?
Say one team A (a contender for the title) wins 5-0's or near it, in all their indiv matches vs team C.
Then team B (also a contender) wins 5-3's mostly against team C.
The overall table wouldn't see any difference as far as team A and B are concerned, only for team C.

This is how it already is for teams A and B though, I guess what you propose would be more accurate for team C at least.

Thats it exactly.

Keeping it simple that all games were won by A & B, then they will both be on 40 points. As indeed they would both be on 16 currently as you recognise.

Its only C that gets recognition for its closer defeats v B than v A.

Plus Team A might have put their best 8 players in v C whereas Team B puts in their worst 8, either by choice or because forced. Team B do not suffer anything for doing that as long the games are won.
