I don't understand why this has suddenly become a common part of this site now, when i first played this site, 8 years, it never happened, and even when i rejoined last year, it didn't happen anywhere near as much as it does now.

Why is there the a reset button anyways, i dont understand the need or want to reset them.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why this new 'craze' has suddenly spread.

It's nothing new, people have reset their stats for a few years now and some people are just serial resetters who if they lose a couple or hve rubbish rank or whatever just reset so they look good. I should know I have done it lol.

The reset button was originally brought in to try bring down the number of people just making a new account when they got bored or didn't like their stats or whatever, but I don't really think this has stopped it much.

I made a suggestion a while back stating something like...

Limit people to a certain number of resets per week or month, I think this would deter people a bit but not much. Unfortunately while the button is there people are gonna do it, if it gets removed you will get loads of new accounts (more than now) popping up with crazy stats and every time they lose or have a bad run the account deleted and a new one brought in...

I like the idea of limiting resets to a certain amount, and as for the whole creating a new account, surely the admin know when a new account has been made off the same IP address, I have 2 accounts that link to my IP address, but one is for me and one is for the rare time my house mate goes onto it. But for people who it is obvious, they must be able to find out quick enough?

Yeah but you see if they deactivate first then they have every right to a new account, I think another suggestion I made was make someone wait the 7 day period from the beginning of deactivating the account until the account can no longer be re activated before they can make a new account.

I totally agree mich, limit amount of resets and also deactivations, should you deactivate then once reactivated you shouldnt be allowed to enter any tournaments say for 1 week. LIMIT the amount of accounts allowed designated to the IP address and should anyone be found to abuse this then ban indefinitely from the site.

At present there are no what i would call strict enough codes of conduct to deter anyone from misrepresenting themselves or the site. Maybe also bring in no newbies can enter tournaments nor clans, might reduce this resetting malarky too? Obviously in order to attract new ppl then newbies should be allowed to enter some things, maybe a newbie/guest tournament until lost their newbie tag?

Newbies in tournaments are a pain, it may deter a lot of serial resetters from resetting, if entry to tournaments is forbid, due to the accelerated rate at which they can accumulate points.

A newbies tournament would be good, but then may deter actual newbies from playing when they realise they have not got a chance of winning against the 'resetters'

Limiting the amount of accounts allocated to an IP address would help also, maybe to 3 accounts per address.

But as always, until something drastic changes, it will keep happening, and its boring with some people now.

I don't think limiting the amount of accounts per IP would be helpful, in fact it may bring more people if someone has a big family/lots of people living with them. These people may see the original person playing for example and fancy making an account themself (bringing another new player into the funky world), but if it's limited to 3 per address, and 3 accounts already play from that address, then this person is prevented from playing, because they can't make an account.

But I don't understand why people reset so much either. Personally I would never reset, because it would just be a waste of the time I've played, and a waste of the achievements to have it all wiped off and start from scratch

Yeah i agree.

The statement the actual newbies may realise they dont stand a chance is wrong, everyone can beat anyone on their day, the newbie tag wont be with them for too long especially if they are winning they will want to get rid of it straight away. So the real newbies will eventually filter through and be more on a more fair playing field.

I also think rage-quitting should be eliminated completely, should you do this then you dont deserve to represent your team nor be a member in it. There's being competetive which is fine and what we want but there's also sillyness too. 'We learn more through our defeats than we do our victories', also partial games should not be tolerated, start the match allowing yourself enough time to complete it, not only your time you are using up but your opponents too.

AGREE mate, I have never reset, dont have many achievements as it is so to reaccomplish them after starting afresh would probably never happen. Unless I got smashed over the head with a pool cue and worked out how to play lol.

I completely agree with having a time limit between deactivating and reactivating an account, may stop a lot of the rage quitting.

I think something should be put in place to deter, not stop people from doing. As if there is a legitimate reason as to why you want to reset stats, you will do it anyways, but its the serial resetters that would be deterred.

Don't really play anymore, but this is coming from a serious reset addict, i agree it has to have a limit.

I used to reset if i lost once in a tournament, but i also get annoyed when i play someone who is a top player and has just their newbie tag and is a low rank so they take yours if they win

But hey ho karma sucks lol.

All the extra stats, medals, achievements, premium, were all to a degree hoped to encourage users to build up an account over time and deter people from resetting/changing accounts.

Similarly with deactivation - it *should* mean "rage quitting" no longer exists because, simply, you can't anymore! You can only deactivate which means nothing unless its left for a week. But some still think its attention-getting for some sad reason...

As a little history - previously the only option was to delete an account. The meant people who wanted to play the stats (a perfectly acceptable way of enjoying the site remember) had to delete and re-create a name meaning no history for others to see. Sometimes people stole names, causing obvious confusion. And people who rage-quit made the forums a pain with lots of "deleted user" posts everywhere.

As always - any new suggestions for improvements always welcome, but do remember there are lots of different aspects to balance among it all.

Off topic for a moment. Spinns as a matter of interest why do accounts get deleted after 13 months inactivity? a username should stick with that person until they choose to delete it.

For instance Yodas account got deleted some time ago and then an idiot decided to make it and get it banned. Same with Johnnydollar on snooker but they deactivated it straight away.

a better option in my view would be either to leave the account alone or make it "Retired" and make those passed "Deceased" or something.

Auto-deletion of old accounts came about following many requests on here. People were fed up with old names dominating stats who hadn't logged in for years, or the inability to use a username that had maybe only played a handful of games but was then abandoned.

Email reminders are sent more than once during the time period, and I think one login per year isn't asking too much if someone actually cares about their account

If people reset it's their business, what's it matter? If I couldnt reset I would deact and make another account all the time like I used to back in the day.

Fair point but my point is its like the account is history, not as in deleted but as a person.

so people may look at yodas profile and think wow yoda got banned, whats he done etc when its a new person.

Based on your post i would keep the account but reset their stats then they keep their profile but they aren't as dominating as before.

Or just archive their account and stats allowing them to still log on, and once they log on and play again they will go back on the stats.
