i am one of the people that have the suffering of being on the gmt time, i love how the tournaments are atm, although, it is easy, it just means that people wont come on to play and have fun. gmt makes no difference. im a player who generally speaking doesnt lose easily, so in hince sight if i was in jims tourny it would make it hard for him.. same as if i was on late and early hours of the morning in your tourny.

I prefer the old tournaments, and feel the current set up is aimed more towards ranking and tournapoints, though I do think the current system still works well.
Think the lower entrants is a combination of more tournys being available, and tournys becoming ranked... meaning people will only enter in 1 at a time whereas in the old system they could enter any tourny that became available.
I don't think it is progress, but I don't think it's going backwards... It is just a different direction

The thread is not about whether or not someone "enjoys" winning little tournaments!
If I am knocked out of the larger tournaments, then I shall enter the little tournaments.
You should know you have played against me often enough in them!
are you ever in 'larger' tournaments?
and even if you are, I'm usually the one to knock you out
Yes he is, and No it's usually me If I play them!!
i take it Jim that you one of those people who likes to win the little tournaments with few people in it

I like there's a tourny open when I log in. Its just entertainment so I want a tourny to play. If you worry so much about whether its the right numbers and whether you get enough points, you need to get out more

I agree, I love the Micros. I virtually never have the time or inclination to play a full tourny nowadays so I love jumping in a micro.
My main issue with full tournaments is the waiting time after you finish your game until your next one. In micros it is quick, in full tournys you can be waiting for ages for the next round, by which time I have lost interest and started doing something else and get a DQ for not turning up.
Well, although I still rarely get to play in any, I think it is a big improvement, as tournaments are now more accessible to everyone.
Only once or twice over the scary number of years I have been a member could I spare a whole hour, sometimes more, to play in a tournament. Not to mention having to wait until one came around.
Now, with micros, I know I can enjoy a tourney without having to wait ages or lay aside exorbitant amounts of time to play.
The fact is, for example, the 13:00 9 Ball Tournament still only happens once a day, so is no less prestigious whether in the current timetable or if it was the only tournament the whole day.

think that's an exaggeration, just ever so slightly!!
i only get on a couple of nites a week and cant get to play a 9 ball tourny coz its always the same time when am gettin kids bathed and to bed, wheras the 25 hour schedule worked for me sometimes. now all i get the opportunity to play in is 9 arcade (even flukier than flukeball lol) and an 8 ball tourny.
micros are ok but short and a tad luckier over 1 frame.
guess it works for some and not others.........but i'll live
keepin er lit anyway

Address spinner post:
Tournaments (As you say) are just as accessible as they have always been in that you wait for the entry message and enter! The only difference now is they are two a penny and with limited numbers entering, which happens to be the sole point of this thread. Just because I can log in at most times of the day and enter an 8 man tournament doesn't make it more exciting than waiting an hour and then entering one with 90 plus entrants. It does on the other hand make it less exciting for many.
Your comment regarding tournaments being just as prestigious now as in the past is plainly ludicrous. It's like saying a 100 metre race is just as prestigious with 2 runners as it is with 10 or that running a marathon (And winning) with 50 entrants is as prestigious as running one with 10,000 and winning.
I do appreciate the micros might be fun for people with limited time to spare, but what about people that have an hour or so to spare and are looking for a real challenge?

Hopefully this attitude is not echoed, especially towards the top of the game. I would be amazed if it is!
It is clear that the game is taking a new direction, what direction I can honestly say I have no idea. From the outside looking in, it is slightly concerning. I would not be negative towards this game in a million years, but there seems to be a shift going on (and has been for a while) it just seems to lack precision or even conviction at the moment. Something just needs to be settled on and followed through

Nothing has changed there. There are just as many hourly and Marathon tournaments as before.
The only difference is there are more options, and more options means more opportunities for people to play.
Lots of people seem to have forgot that the driving force behind the new structure and tournapoints in general is to try and encourage people to play more tournaments.
The numbers had dropped off long before the new(ish) systems were introduced.

Everything is now ranked isn't it?

nah i don't forget, i agree with you spinns in some respect, i do like that theres a tournament when i log in but at the same time i just feel theres too many. i think hourly tournaments with 25 hour schedule and a micro on 30 minutes past the hour could work rather than have 3 micros one after the other.
even the 25 hour schedule would bring some fun as people said, like for example perfect_play, gentle_giant and those from the USA if a marathon is during the day GMT that means usually its night time for them where as a schedule where tournaments change each day gives more variety and all time zones has equal chance to join tournament of their choice

If the TournaPoints award was taken away from Micro's then there'd be more incentive to join the large tourni's, without taking away from peoples desire to play double ranked games (in the Micro's)
Also, I strongly agree with having a 25 hour schedule.
