Not sure the sarcastic comments are needed in this thread to be honest.

I have seen first hand the dangers smoking can cause and how bad it is for someone to stop, so first off well done on quitting.

This could be a very good thread to help and support those who are not finding it as easy as yourself, so lets just hope it helps people.

Title of the thread seems like it could've been an advert...

Well done for giving up! Following up on Mich...might be useful if you posted what you did to help you give up-any tips/advice for others trying the same.

Helped me whenever I felt like I needed one, I had a substitute, generally something minty-either Tic Tacs/Polos or just some gum...but you just need to want to do it I feel, a lot of people who try and give up, fail just 'cause they aren't too fussed about giving up-as manwee said, you just need to focus and put your mind to it.

I quit easily just because I had very little money, and I looked at the better things I could be spending the money on. Besides that I'd rather pay 35P and buy some chewing gum than spending over £5 each time.

That is exactly what I did, and now look, I have a nice car and I'm saving a lot of money that could come to good use in the future.

do it with a group, those who take a smoke you hit - how me and my mates done it - 20punches per fag soon cut you out of the habbit lol.

On a serious note - mum's been clean for 6 years - think of the damage you could do to your son/daughter in future life while you/your miss's is preg's or even once the baby is born - still don't feel that people find it so hard - it's a habbit you can get yourself off if you put your mind to it. It's down to belief more then anything

The main aim is to not just think, I won't get addicted, just to see what it's like! Because there is a chance you will want more, then its tough to rid yourself of it. If someone offers you a smoke think of an answer that won't make your friends think your scared or anything, or my way was to just say yes please! then throw in the drain, and ask for another

The simple fact is that it's far too expensive to smoke nowadays.

I tried to stop when my grandad died with lung cancer, which spread everywhere ina matter of 2 months - he died 2 months ago but even with that i still smoke.

Smoking is the only real thing that calms me down if i get angry so even if i did stop i doubt it would be for long

Congratulations on all the people who have stopped, and good luck to all the rest

Im at school still now, and about 1/3 of my year are smoking at break times, and this is at 14.
I know some people who have been smoking since they started high school, which is year 7 for me and i think your only about 11 then.
14 and been smoking 3 years straight, kind of scary!

Hope everyone does good in quitting

try not to inhael correctly, you take a drag and breathe in - try to avoid breathing it in - u still get the effect but you don't damage your lungs as much and it becomes easier to stop.

No lung cancer, just harmless mouth cancer instead

Smoking is such an ugly habit. All 3 of my brothers and sisters smoke and when I go visit them or they are at mine I can't stand the smell of smoke, it's horrible. Both my mum and dad gave it up with relative ease so I hope my brother and sisters do too. Used to go out with a girl who smoked too and I grew to hate it more than ever because the smell of cigarettes would be lingering everywhere, and now for me it's the one thing that puts me off most in girls as it's so unattractive. The public smoking ban was a brilliant thing for people like myself and I would imagine that it may have helped some people quit or at least cut back. I'm sure with the right amount of will power and realisation of how nasty a habit it is, it's not that difficult to abstain from.

Firstly for me. Well Done on stopping smoking! I packed up for 8 months a few months back and then stupidly started again for my own silly reasons. Iike any addiction you will only give up when you want too. If someone says dont do then its much harder. Smoking isnt good for you and the NHS helpline looks good. Even thou i can never get an answer

Well done mate keep up the good work!

You can also try patches over the mouth

Or you could not give a crap what people think of you, live your life how you want to and say no anyway?
