While I will always understand the need to advertise, I do feel that the organisers of this great website are being totally hyprocritical. We as members have our pictures monitered our language censored, and are constantly warned about any abusive behaviour, all of which i think is a good thing, but I find myself confused about the type of advertising I have recently seen. Adverts for men to sign up to meet girls that on the pictures have only knickers on(not that I mind this). Adverts that are blatently advertising sex with russian girls, again I dont mind this, but where is the level ground moderaters. Is it just greed and getting an income from this fab website.

I havent got a problem, I am certainly not a prude. There are very few websites with such stringent rules. but this is a good thing. Maybe the ads need to be monitered equally as much as the members do.

As you will see looking back over the forums, specific adverts have been removed many times.

However, most of the adverts are now supplied by google and are based upon your own browsing history. No two people see the same ads (unless they happen to frequent exactly the same websites, of course!)

Obviously, it is impossible to monitor these..

If the ads are based on browsing history, then how come I'm seeing ads for the types of websites I would never visit, such as the russian women site and gambling / bingo sites? Seems rather strange.

With my browsing history I'd only expect to see ads for online survey sites and PS3 game reviews

That can be because googles stats show people who browse those sort of sites typically also use gambling sites etc.

For example, I've recently been shopping around for better insurance deals and almost all the ads are now for insurance of one form or another. Not a russian lady in sight!

only sites i visit is facebook, msn and google to research for stuff (like xbox walkthroughs) and funky of course.

if its based on browsing history it should be those instead of gambling/russian ladies im getting now as i avoid those sites at all cost because a) i dont like looking at sexy women b) i avoid any gambling sites so you dont get hooked etc thats why i avoided killer pool, you dont play you dont get hooked, simple.

so i every much doubt its browsing history.

It is based on browsing history, but as spinner says, it then makes a targetted assumption on what else you might like based on that history.

Clearly it can only ever be a general assumption and of course it has to give you a 'suitable' advert from a company that has actually paid them money to have their adverts delivered to you.

Don't forget that is what advertising is mainly about - drawing in new customers who might like your product but who may never have considered it before.

I only go on funky tbh lol, but this suggests that I would go on poker / sexy russian websites, which is very wrong :P

Also its a family site! These kids are exposed to all this "stuff".

needs sorting really

This is true, it's the same for me on youtube, ads come up on stuff that i have recently looked at. I also do get these sexy russians ads which i never actually go on lol. I think it's because i watch movies online etc and random ads come up then and it must transfer to this also, thats the only thing i can think of for me.

Well its bit like sending your kids into a toy shop only to have dirty mags everywhere lol . For a site that advertises itself as a family site its really not appropriate to have these kind of adds . I realise there's a need for advertising but its a bit of a cop out to say its controlled by our browsing history .
Maybe if these kinds of adds cant be controlled by funky pool it should be an adults only site ?
