could also be done by rank i.e. having tournament that is ranked, micro points available but the tournament is not credited and say for example a tournament is for players between 700-750 for example

i personally like the idea of "buy in" tournaments as wont have many newbies in them

How about, you can put an amount of your choice in, say gamble them all for higher points if you win.

maybe but tournapoints is just like rank imo means nothing, i mean i reset on snooker about 3 times but it doesn't mean im a poor player (everyone knows what level i can compete at), i used to care for rank alot but since september when i reset quite good stats i stopped caring for rank and i don't regret it one bit.
all tournapoints/medals is is how much time you spend playing tournaments not how good you are (although most good players actually win the tournament).
im not sure if this will actually happen but its a good idea.

yeah maybe a pot at the end and winner gets tournapoints in the pot, could be 60% winner, 20% for runner up, 10% for semis.
