This may have been raised before and sorry if it has and this contributes to me clogging up the forum but I strongly think we should implement international rules to the UK 8 ball game.
For starters, no fouling off the break would be a good addition.
Secondly, having to hit a cushion with every shot would prevent tedious snookering and drawn out play.
There are other advantageous rules I can't think of at this moment in time but the international rules are much more fun in real life and I'm sure would be better here.
Pedrera.

Yeah, I like this idea, I play "World Rules" in many leagues in real life, it's a more open of a game. There would still be fouls off the break, if 4 balls didn't hit the cushions.
Good idea, but many people still play EPA - old rules, (as do I) so either way, is fine by me!

i really like this idea. The cushion rule is great , it makes games more attacking.

i like it too but i feel it will be more like US if this gets changed with the exception of 2 shot carryon after foul or the bucket pockets.
each game type has its own rules which what makes pool so unique

I agree.
We already have the 'cushion rule' in both 8US and 9US.
I actually like 8UK because in some ways you have to work slightly harder for a win.
But to have "International Rules" for 8 Ball UK is silly...its like calling the American baseball World Series the "World Championship" when only American teams are playing - they don't play the Chinese, Japanese, Mexican or Australian teams, they just proclaim to be world champions.
8 Ball UK should have the rules that is generally accepted in UK pubs.
If there was Australian Pool on here and there was the cushion rule, I would be furious as we don't play that rule here in Australia.
Obviously, I cant comment on UK pub rules as I have never been to the UK but I don't believe in "International Rules" for a UK game; it should be what they play in the UK.

A clear echo on previous posts........
The game is called "8Ball UK", implementing the international rules for a UK game (Which has it's own rules) just won't work in my opinion.
We have different rules for each discipline we have on here, each are very unique especially 8Ball UK.
If this was implemented we would basically have 2 near identical 8Ball games.

You have to keep the games types as different as possible, bringing them too close together is dangerous.

There is no reason to cap a thread just because there is general agreement.
The first few posts in this thread were in support of the idea, so there are people who do support this idea.
We keep threads open in case someone does find a fresh or new point of view to add to the discussion.
Threads are not capped just because a vast majority agree/disagree with an idea.

i think we could get an extra game out of this site if we could play both sets of rules here is the rules for both version's of the 8 ball uk http://www.arseweb.com/pool/uk_rules.html
i would say get rid of the bucket pockets for the new rules and this game could well be a hit
ignore the BAPTO rules (federal rules)

Well out of date that link. The two rules are World Rules and less commonly Blackball rules. Rest are all defunct at national level and upwards.

There should be a new game without the ridiculous middle pockets and 'World Rules' implemented. Also change the physics so that when you put spin on the cue ball, after you come off the cushion it should reverse, on this site it doesnt

The middles are there for run outs and the white does reverse if you have the right cue action

UK pub rules play with the cushion rule etc etc and go via the international rules, i live close to London and the amount of pubs here are crazy 99% of people use these rules however the cushion option isn't always added in.
Personally i say we do it, there was a big hooharr when tournapoints were brought out (yes i did go against it) so why not try this aswell.....

Even if not completly across the UK game make there a UK game with these rules as another addtion to the site. Would be far better to have the option of playing both, also stops people getting to 940 sat playing snookers all day long. Would also make the ranking system a bit more interesting as many of the top 10 wouldn't be there if it was to be played like this and would give others more of a chance to produce there better form.
