Of course knowledge increases the average chance of a GB, but it's in no way an absolute requirement for it to be able to happen at all.

i got my only 8 ball golden break by a complete fluke against adidas, if it wasnt for the "rocket" i wouldnt have a US golden break right now

The golden break thing stems back to the days when there was just UK pool and the rack was fixed.

A player caled fccmike (no longer with us) found "the GB shot" which worked every time.

This created a great upheaval (and pretty way out stats!) as you can imagine, but even now its sorted there are a still a few who go for the shot everytime.

Fact is, even in real life, some angles are more likely to work than others, so there is a logic but it isn't as set in stone as some would have it .

So, eventually, back to topic - a combo is just that, not a big thing an actually quite often even easier (if lined up correctly) than potting the 9 ball alone.

GB's on the other hand, are rare, but as long as the stat is there, people want them, whether by skill, luck or magic, it doesnt matter, because all require a good break
