Spinner and aflumpire have given me a valid reason why people want to become a moderator, in that they want to give something back to the site, which I think is perfectly honourable. Ta.

I still am not going against what I posted earlier however, regardless of what you may think. I think the personalities of the moderating team fit nicely into the roles that they cary out. I'm also sure that since these people have become moderators they have tempered their behaviour to some extent, otherwise they would get into trouble if they talked in derogatory terms to another user/expressed their own opinions which may cause friction with others.

Oh, and I'm fairly sure that if nick made available a list of people who have applied to become moderators you would see many people who would just be there for their own gain and kudos on the site. I don't think that can be denied, you just have to look at the number of new clans that have tried starting up recently with the "leader" basically gloating about how great his clan is and how he is captain etc.. In that sense the admin team have done well with the people they have chosen to become mods. Cheers

P.S. I also don't like to see people pipe up on the forums just to say how amazing moderating is and how brilliantly mods do their job in a vain attempt to inluence the people making the choices to who becomes future moderators...

I reckon walker666 could well be Jeremy Clarkson....says what he thinks!

There are some great mods on here and some i personally consider not so great but thats for my own reasons.....the main thing i like is how the admin team are not influenced by the people you mention at the end of your post dave, they make good choices for the most part.

i think sporting was an obvious choice to become a moderator, much in the same way iamtheworst was over on snooker, and thats down to how they help people before they get moderating abilities. These are the kind of people who should be moderating the site, not the people like ourselves who sometimes let sarcasm get in the way!

I found TC as a place to post my worst stuff and get away with it, hence not posting here anymore much (until last couple of days anyway!)

Id never posted anywhere on t'interweb before here so im grateful for the eye opener, its good fun when taken in the right context!

Took it slightly off topic i guess but yeah.....

But why cant someone apply to be a moderator because they genuinely want to give back to the site??

The people who get selected do... *Confused smiley*

Otherwise they wouldn't give up their time to do it...

Everyone recieves a reply to their moderating application whether they are successful or not. Sometimes it can take up to or even slightly more than 3 months, as mentioned. Please be patient.

Is over twelve months without a response to a processed application patient enough?

I have waited a few months too, but I went and had a word with Nick he said ''Sorry, We are a bit slow at the minute'' so I justed replied no problem.. But I am patient and could wait.

No need to cap anything, someone else might have questions in future.

A few points here so lets go through them :

Everyone recieves a reply to their moderating application whether they are successful or not. Sometimes it can take up to or even slightly more than 3 months, as mentioned. Please be patient.

Also note that this reply goes to the email address you were using when you applied, not your funkypool messages.

People want to become moderators simply to help out and to give a little back to this free site which has entertained many for a long time.

Hotmail accounts are not accepted because as a moderator you have to have a more secure email address.

Lastly, no-one should need any kind of "feedback" to tell them they have broken the site rules. The rules are there plain as day, and everyone who has signed up for an account agree's to have read and accepted them.

If there are any actions you are unsure about, check the relevant help section and if necessary use the relevant contact us link.

okay i just remember applying few years back and recieved nothing good change

Also, moderating is great for those power-hungry megalomaniacs. (Even if for a short while)

Hmmm... no! There will always be those who want the moderating job just to give themselves an over-inflated sense of self-importance, but these attempts will fail. As has been mentioned already, look at the current moderating team and you will see that none of them is there as part of a "Look at me, I'm a mod, I'm so great" agenda. So obviously the selection process weeds out this unpropitious element.

why can't prospective mods have a hotmail account?

I'm sure they can, just as long as it isn't the one they use for FP correspondence

Completely true. And the Obama-esque answer is... yes we can!

I was joking cloone... ... Obviously sarcasm doesn't travel over the internet...

As you have brought to light, I meant that those who apply MAY be power-hungry megalomaniacs. I never quoted that one would ever become one... (I dont think )

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

How much does a moderator get paid or is it just the usual internet connection fee that's covered?

50 odd members of staff must cost a fair bit!!

They get paid nothing. They do it for the love of the site

And with the 2 recent additions it is 27 members of staff

Moderators don't get paid tiger2, it's a voluntary job..

Why they do it for free? Well, there's plenty of reasons mentioned in this thread

Edit: sm_rat beat me to it But more or less made the same post!

I was including the snooker staff.

I'm sure now premium accounts are available some kind of payment would be the right thing to do? Most sites that use members to moderate offer to cover the cost of internet connection at the very least because they are making a profit.

Are premium accounts available on Pool yet?

Anyway, premium accounts are £10 for 6 months ad-free play. That £10 is there to cover those advert costs.

Where does the £10 go then? Would it go to the same place as 5000 people paying the £10 every 6 months?

I doubt the people who purchase premium spent time on a daily basis clicking advertisements, so it's a clean profit!

I don't think it matters how many times someone clicks on an ad, it is there for exposure, there's probably a set fee, like a newspaper ad (i'm assuming). You looking for a job?!
