Hello please notify me if the current set up has changed.
As far as i know when an individual applies to be a moderator they are told to wait up to 3 months before they decide and you will be notified had you succeeded Now i believe you should recieve a little note back even if you werent successful. Something along the lines of:
We regret to inform you that you were unsuccessful in your moderating application because:
You have a serious offence on record
You havent had enough experience etc
I think its only polite to tell some one this otherwise they will just apply regulary afterwards ignorant of why there being ignored.
Please note ive no intention of applying even if i did ive a funny feeling i wouldnt be accepted

You have to wait up to six weeks for a reply, depending on how early in the month you applied. You're advised to wait three months (after receiving the reply) to apply again.

They do leave a note saying why you haven't been selected...
Also, it's 6 weeks for a reply. I know it's a long time, but these things TAKE time. It's 3 months till you can apply again.
So if you applied on the 1st of January (February being the exception of course. Need an easy month) then you may have to wait till the 14th of February for a reply.

What I would like to know.....
. what are the perks/advantages to being a moderator i.e. why people apply in the first place - excellent salary, looks great on your cv?? *confused smiley* The number of idiots on the site mean it is bluntly a thankless task.
. why can't prospective mods have a hotmail account? I'm gutted, unfortunaely I have one so my application will have to be put on ice.
Also, any kind of feedback (via email) on instances when you have broken the site rules would be welcome, i.e. my "about me" section was deleted recently and for a while I thought I had been hacked.

No need to cap anything, someone else might have questions in future.
A few points here so lets go through them :
Everyone recieves a reply to their moderating application whether they are successful or not. Sometimes it can take up to or even slightly more than 3 months, as mentioned. Please be patient.
Also note that this reply goes to the email address you were using when you applied, not your funkypool messages.
People want to become moderators simply to help out and to give a little back to this free site which has entertained many for a long time.
Hotmail accounts are not accepted because as a moderator you have to have a more secure email address.
Lastly, no-one should need any kind of "feedback" to tell them they have broken the site rules. The rules are there plain as day, and everyone who has signed up for an account agree's to have read and accepted them.
If there are any actions you are unsure about, check the relevant help section and if necessary use the relevant contact us link.

Naaaah. Can't agree there I'm afraid. Like you say, there are idiots. The moderating team helps to ensure theese idiots' "input" (specifically of the sort of that is disruptive, offensive, etc) into FP is kept to a minimum. There's no shortage of people who are grateful, even if they don't voice it, when someone idiot (to use your term for consistency's sake ) is removed from the chat room or has their post edited for the same reason for misbehaviour.
Agreed in principle. EDIT: I've just seen spinner's post before mine got posted.

No probs cloone, I respect your opinion. From my point of view there are a fairly substantial number of users who have been aggressive towards me in ranked games, whom are still around at the moment. I didn't say that I wasn't grateful for the mods on this site, moderators are obviously needed, what I was simply pointing out is that you would need the patience of a saint to have to sit around and boot these people from chat rooms for lewd conduct. I don't see the personal benefit that I would get from that, perhaps maybe an ego boost when others are thankful... Also, if I was a moderator, I would have to watch every word I say and would have to be falsely nicey-nice with everyone, which isn't in my personality. I've had conversations with mods where they basically never answer a straight question in case they get into trouble..
Also spinner, I did name and shame on my about me bit, but I didn't see anywhere in the terms and conditions where it says you couldn't (saying that, it is probably there somewhere), on the forum I agree it is probably wrong to do this. I doubt my homepage gets many hits anyway..

Don't forget your UCAS...
Also, moderating is great for those power-hungry megalomaniacs. (Even if for a short while)

You may have just hit the nail on the head there Sam
I'm not sure how it would look on your personal statement though that you spend most of your free time on a procrastination website (at least in my case ).

That's exactly what my Mum thinks this website is
As for the power-hungry megalomaniacs, I haven't actually seen one as a moderator... ^.^
The people that apply genuinely want to help this site, and it requires giving up quite a bit of time!

walker i think you miss the main part of moderating the site .
For me there has never been a mod on here for there own gain...
They give up free time to help you me and everyone that uses the site .
I have never seen a mod or talked to a mod with a power or ego boost they have help me and did not
falsely be nice because they had to ,As for a moderater not to answer a question or complaint just in case they get in trouble is total rubbish.
these guys put them selfs out for us no matter what ,

Everyone recieves a reply to their moderating application whether they are successful or not. Sometimes it can take up to or even slightly more than 3 months, as mentioned. Please be patient.
Is over twelve months without a response to a processed application patient enough?
