Well I won so does that excuse me?
Right, back to business.
You won't find the answer to this on the internet, but you can find how to work it out. (well you probably can, but it's easier to work it out I reckon)
If a man, 5 foot, 3 inches tall was standing at sea level and looking out to sea, approximately how far away would the horizon appear to be?
Answer in imperial units please
EDIT: Too easy so the height of the man was changed.

the horizon is like the end of a rainbow, its impossible to calculate the horizen
16:47 Thu 26 Feb 09 (GMT) [Link]
The horizon is where the sky meets the sea, if you keep going out to sea the horizon is going to be the same distance away, the answer is...as far as you can throw a wet stick?

Aslong as you stay at the same level above sea it will always be the same distance away (given there is nothing in the way) but what would that distance be for a man of 5 foot 3 inches?

So... in theory, one can see the sea over an infinite distance, keoghz?
16:52 Thu 26 Feb 09 (GMT) [Link]
theoretically speaking yes, without land or a lighthouse in the way

So when the sun sets on the ocean, how come it doesn't get wet? Or boil the ocean?

Update: When I say 5ft 3 - you can take that measurement to be the height of his eyeline.
Just to stop confusion at a later stage.

But if the ocean extends forever into the distance, then doesn't the sun plunge into it when it sets?
