Answer: Tony Ford. Between 1975 and 2001 he played 931 games, although that was still 74 games short of Peter Shilton's haul of 1005. Ford's clubs were Grimsby Town (423 games), Sunderland (9), Stoke City (112), West Bromwich Albion (114), Bradford City (5), Scunthorpe United (76), Mansfield Town (103) and Rochdale (89).
Next question: Which footballer holds the record for the most games played for one club in the Football League and FA Premier League? He doesn't necessarily have to have played his whole career at that club, but that player's tally at one club was greater than anyone else's at one club.
