Old EPA rules aren't the same as blackball either Steph, they are defunct i suppose in as no organisations (certainly in Britain use them).

No i know i was simply stating they are currently using old epa lol as u sed funkypool uses neither blackball rules or world rules.

Blackball rules are not very popular i hear.

I like the current set up anyways.

Old epa are very popular in uk.

Depends where u go. EPA is the main organisation in England and uses World Rules, where as in Scotland the main organisation is the SPA which uses blackball rules, but in Scotland we also have the SEPF that uses World Rules.

It's been UK 8 ball as long as i've been here and i think it would be a shame for a name change.

I'd like to keep the old name.

i agree with what all you are saying, but if the name does get changed officially from 8 ball uk to blackball then i think to stay up to date with current markets that is what we should change the name to, until that happens though i think it should stay as 8 ball uk

I dont mind which but if it dose get changed then the rules need to be changed to blackball rules.
The current rules used is the most common used by pubs.

Even in pubs the rules vary!

UK 8 ball will always be what i'll refer it to but if its becoming international preference then why not go with the flow?

Nick this is a very touching and contravertial subject within the world of pool. this is due to the conflict between the governing bodies. blackball was brought in to try and bring everyone together to standarise the game. The offcial governing body (which hold the world championships each year) is the english pool association (EPA for short.
When this took place in late 2005 early 2006 the EPA stated that they would have no part in this and so are still the official body.

If there was to be a name change I would have heard somthing as I am within the pool world and have been for many a year.

If the name were changed to blackball then maybe the rules would have to be changed to match it exactly? But I like the rules as they are...

The WEPF and PPPO are the two governing bodies of pool. Playing World Rules and Blackball rules respectively. The WEPF is the strong are the larger of the two organisation and play to World Rules. The PPPO is slightly smaller and also hold their own World Championships in Bridlington every year.

Blackball rules was coined mainly by Ross McInnes I believe who was trying to take the best aspects of all the existing rules and unite pool. But this was widely rejected by most WEPF affiliated organisation including the EPA.
