Any site you join can do the same. So if there is a disturbing pattern of behaviour you can be dealt with either by them dis-connecting your internet connection, or calling the local authority - I'm guessing anyway!
(I could be wrong........ it just seems the sensible thing to happen)

I've noticed that there are a lot of banned and deactivated users while looking through these threads.
I hear stories that people get banned because they beat a mod and they ban them out of spite. Don't believe these tales but was just wondering what you guys know about it?

This was in NO WAY a pointless thread
It really opens up to people how people can get banned and how to prevent it. It provoked a discussion which has reached it's second page; that's more than most other threads recieve.
Threads like this need to come up every now and again to remind people how to behave. No one reads the rules anymore, you might as well hear it from some experienced users.
Entirely agree there clooney! *Thumbs up*
If you ask me, YOU made a pointless post platty_efc.
EDIT: I am (of course) insinuating that you aimed that remark at the maker of this thread. If not, I am sorry, but this is to all that think it!

There is in general no legal mandate for an ISP to shut out a subscriber based on negative feedback from various sites on the net - not even when clearly illegal. In the latter case tho, the ISP clearly is obliged by law to report it to the authorities, but shutting out the customer in question should happen only based on court order (not even the police has a mandate for this). Innocent until proven otherwise, remember?

Its funkypool...just another website! Not a god like so many people like to think it is.
The providers aren't going to say "banned on funkypool lets disconnect them and ring the police"

I've portrayed myself wrong. I meant in child protection terms, and yes that a court order would have to used to shut the IP down.
I think there should be something in place for sites to use to report disturbing behaviour. If an IP was showing up reports of abuse across a stream of sites and chat rooms then something could be done........... wishful thinking maybe!
Wrong.
I've read on certain child protection cases that such things have happened. Names have been blacklisted from being able to recieve the internet due their mis-use of it!
Obviously it has to be done a certain way like Jan said, innocent till proven guilty.
Shame there isn't a cladestine law that's clearly understandable to all.

Unless the actions reported break the ISP's terms of service also, which would lead to the termination of your service, and be reported to the autorities if necessary.
We often refer people to funkypool's terms of service when they ask questions. Have you ever stopped to read your ISP's terms of service in detail?
You might be surprised

I think we should clarify serious offences as things like attempting access to an account that doesn't belong to you, serious racist behaviour, threatening behaviour or any illegal activities. This could lead to further action above a banning.
The following lists what are actually considered criminal activities for attempting "hacking":

Someone was fined, computer confiscated and given a criminal record by attempting to change the URL's to find hidden information.

What??? Changing the URLs to see what he could see got him in trouble? But wouldn't that be just like going into the library, asking "Have you this book?" "Have you this book?" "Have you this book?" and eventually being given a book that maybe wasn't meant for the public? It's not the perfect analogy but... I don't know what exactly I'm trying to say, so I'll wait till the responses come in and that'll help me define my point better. I've one eye on the clock and I should be in bed now

I thought it was ridiculously harsh too, but the laws are firmly on the side of the websites as they are at risk of attack 24/7.
Here's the report:

Apparently he didn't get his computer seized.

Cuthbert was found guilty under the Computer Misuse Act of gaining unauthorized access to an appeal site for victims of the Asian tsunami in December 2004. Cuthbert said in court that he had made a donation and then became concerned that he'd fallen victim to a phishing scam. To check, he added "../../../" to the URL in an attempt to access the site's higher directories--an action that triggered an alarm.

Yes, I did edit the URL, clooneman, if you add invalid internal URL's to here it ends up giving me an incorrect link report
For me it's intent that counts though.
