Im sure alot of the old players I played back in the day when PoolSharks was around will agree with me when I say that this site just doesn't seem the same anymore.

A couple of years before the US game styles were released you were guaranteed atleast 10 amazing players every tournament (which was UK back then). But everytime I come on here and play a tournament I can only count the decent players involved in it on one hand.

Back then you had the likes of:

Squeezy
Anth0ny
Steven159
Middles_boro
Lars
Trickshot
Ooj

Those are just a few names that you would be expected to play in a tournament all those years ago when winning a tournament actually meant something. I even remember Anth0ny and Steven159 playing 4am onwards because winning tournaments was a big thing. But these days you dont seem to have to play well at all to win one.

And I can guarantee that if those players and including others were playing now, you would have about 15 Virtuoso's on each game type.

Anyone who can give reasons as to why it aint so competitive anymore. Please tell me

You think it's not competitive? You should be winning every Tournement then........

Personally I think Funkypool is the most competitive it's ever been. You only have to look at the stats of some of the players on here to realise that.

Love the old skoolers talking about the old days. Full of stories like before the stats were saved one guy reached 950-odd without losing a game!!! Oh, you won't have heard of it because it was on the old poolsharks...convenient. Jog on.

why dont u nter the tourneys and win them then?

I think the fact that there are alot of high ranked players is also testement to how good they are. There needs to be alot of good players for rank to be high, take a look at 8 ball US.

Maybe because there is so many decent players it takes alot for one to stand out now, do you not think?

I'm as guilty as anyone of not wanting to move on. I stuck it out 'till the last minute with poolsharks, have rebelled against many changes, but you have to accept that every one has brought us new challenges, and with them, new challengers.

Many of us from those days have also grown up, less time dedicated to clinical precision, and way more distractions while playing.

Imagine a poolsharks clan. All locked in insulated lofts with complete sound insulation and red bull at the ready. We would give the new breed a run for their money, especially on UK

If all those players came back now then the best players today would probably batter them.

None of them are multi skilled, you all can only play 8 Ball UK so youll never test the overall top 10.

Every so often, an old skooler comes back and hits 920 or whatever at UK then disappears into a self satisfied smog.

Nobody cares about the old skool.

If i left the site now, i wouldnt come back in two years and be like yeah ya all crap, it was better back in the day, egotistical would have hammered anyone at UK or lordpool was ace at 8ball.

Id just come back and try and prove myself again because from where im sat, most of these names mean diddly squat (for want of a more offensive word)

squeezy is good, i played him a few times, his stats are impreessive indeed. trickshot is still around and plays regular, he isnt troubling 900 is he. Most of the others i have only heard of through the people who used to fancy them in 2003 (like you =D)

If a poolsharks clan wants to take on the untouchables we are game. So long as you promise that threads like this will be no more after we send you back to 2003 with a sore bum

Of all the names above, i have to mention squeezy - nobody as yet has matched that consistancy over that time period. Sure, time will tell, but it may not tell anything better than you see right now for quite a while

spinner if you want to put together a team of 8 of the best players from poolsharks ill get a team of 8 current 8uk legends and well see what happens. ill be manager, dont think id make the final squad somehow

prob is diff of opinion, i would pick 3 out of that list of 7 for old skoolers

another issue is, where is the cut of point from new skool to old skool

i think this would be pretty interesting...

i hear a lot about how good these old skoolers were and it would be good to see how each of the new breed rank amongst them.

besides what makes some of the old skool players differ to the likes of col, niall, gerry, onua, etc.

the new breed are just as good if not better than these poolsharks guys.

Bobby- i guess to be considered for the poolsharks team, you would have to have played on poolsharks and have at least 5 threads about how great you are and how youd beat anybody new from funkypool

Put me in a team against them ill give it a go, nnot a uk legend by any means, but ive played most of the oldies and give them a run for their money ...

Me vs steven ended 50-43 him (in one marathon game)
Played squeezy quite a bit beat him a few times..
Not played ooj or lars but played and beat others too but have also been beaten by them

as you say mich if you can get a score like that against steven, from what ive heard he was as good as ooj and lars etc, then the very best at uk would surely win.

although i get loads of people saying old skoolers arent shown the respect they deserve, or i can comprehend how good they are etc.

yeah dont get me wrong im not saying they are all rubbish or anythin because i havent played them,but from all the things ive heard it sounds like they are all smithbits and onuas of today or better
