Though iTunes is the dominant online music store and the iPod is by far the dominant music player with over 73 percent of the market share in the U.S., not everyone has or uses them. And not everyone wants to.

good marketing thats why from apple inc...people are convinced they are the 'in thing to have' as people think...'well he/shes got one so i must have one and oooh lovely accessories'.....and are therefore sucked in to part with there money for an overpriced music/video storage playing device.
Same happens with everything, latest phone, games console etc etc etc
I will never be sucked into it

Thats true, but that only relates to single use mp3 players, which is why you can't plug an iPod in and use it as a straight up removable disk.
USB pens which can play MP3's, mobile phones, even digital cameras, can all play mp3's, but aren't counted in that figure.
iPods are very good for what they are, especially the video ones with a decent docking system. My brother fills his up when he's home and it's practically his entire entertainment system while he's at uni.
However, my biggest gripe is the hassle of getting media onto the things, as i refuse to let iTunes near any computer of mine ever again!

Very interesting point with the removable disk how ever yes mp3 can but iPod can't which is a shame because iPod's are locked into the apple network and it is ment for iTunes that's how you put your media on but how ever you can us removable drive but it won't work as like other mp3 players dragging the media in to the removable disk but with iPod's it wouldn't work I tried this and nothing showed up so it's just iTunes that does all the work .

That site just demonstrates perhaps the greatest marketing of all time, synically, but beautifully. Word of mouth, innovators, everything, its perfect, apple are clever!

Ipod nano, lets all face it, the only point to having an ipod especially is because we all have the ability to say ''I have an Ipod'' It is a status thing

I think most people are actually moaning about itunes in its role as managing the files that go on to your ipod.
I had to reformat my PC recently. Downloaded itunes again and then went to download an album to the ipod. It came up with this ipod is already synced to another library. The only way around it was to clear the ipod and reload 30gb of music into the library and ipod again - 2 days of work
the Creative software I had before was better by far.

I guess this is a good time/place to air one of my iTunes gripes.
I supscribe to the Ricky Gervais Show podcasts (the most successful in history, and highly reccomended)
The first 3 series were downloadable as normal mp3's from audible.com. with standard "3 copy" DRM, which was fine.
Since then, they moved to iTunes only, which means, since my phone and mp3 player arent compatible with iTunes, i can't listen to the podcast i paid for unless i sit at home, which kinda defeats the point of a podcast don't you think?
Sure, i can "rip" the podcast from iTunes, but that takes time and is a major hassle, so i end up downloading it illegally. As with series 4, i emailed Ricky/Karl/Steve to tell them and actually got a reply saying thanks, we know, but agents etc deal with it so we're sorry.
I don't advocate illegal downloads at all, but i wont be shy in saying that in the case f iTunes exclusive content, they are the only way i can listen to what i pay iTunes for.
edit - rant over
