im presuming his dad came in and said get off the pc now i need to do something......many of our younger members might have this problem in the future.

If you were his dad and had no idea what this site was would you care what they were doing, if you needed to do something quickly.

And as already pointed out, he isnt lying,i ve seen it before where people get 3 consec fouls and lose the game and then it carries on next game....it was in a 9ball tourny a month or so ago. I wondered at the time, if the random limit should be lowered to 3 for 9ball.......

if he is playing a game and then his dad says i need computer a sec hes gonna lose points either way. i bet if you were hovering just above professional status, you wouldnt close the window whilst in a game you still had a chance of winning.

Point is auto start of 30 seconds gives no leeway at all. That scenario is rare, maybe, but there are plenty of reasons to be away from the computer and be in a game room.

If for example, one of your relatives has been rushed to hospital and you get a phone call saying get here now, are you gonna stay and shut down your pc or are you gonna not give it a seconds thought.
Point is, however much people dont want to hear it, there are plenty of valid reasons to be sat in a game room and not be at the computer.
Still fighting a losing battle, as everyone who tells me they dont like it in game seems scared to post their views on here =S

exactly- but to my eyes what people are saying in game and what people are posting on here or not posting at all are two (or 3:P) different things.

Maybe they are just telling me whatever they think i want to hear and thats why but thats not the impression i was getting....and id rather people gave honest opinions on it.

I will be on the new pc soon anyway, once i figure out why my speakers wont work with it and then i can adapt to all the changes at once =D

Probably the same for me too, as my feedback from when I've chatted to people online seems to be worlds away from what you've experienced.

Regarding the case described above: it is a bug - people should be logged out after 5 random shots (although maybe it can be lowered to 3). The 5 shots did not carry into the next game but should have..

I'm strongly against a pause option, i find enough time is spent waiting on people as it is.

It wouldn't work unless it was something both people agreed to, and would only cause friction when people like myself would never agree.

It only takes a few seconds to either finish the game, or if its something important, click the x in the corner to close.

Its just a game after all, and potentially disrupting the enjoyment of the game to work around the quirks of a few users seems very unfair to me.

If you need breaks from the game/more time, just play 90 second games. If losing rank because you have to go away suddenly bothers you, then play friendlies.

Both options give you what you want, without affecting the game in any way for others.


Its important to remember that while there may be a vocal minority against the change on the forum, there are literally hundreds of users who are carrying on playing quite happily.

Exactly the same thing happened when auto-start was removed and the rack button introduced, 'tis just the nature of the beast!

I don't see a problem with private games as you're more than likely to be playing with friends, but even then I think both players should have to agree to the pause.

Obviously both players would need to agree to the pause and i said maybe it would only work in private as people may abuse it!

Pause will be ABUSED and it will cause problems between people so do what spinner said if your gonna do something for a min or 2 put 90 seconds

The question is who the game should cater to: The player being away from the game or the player who is present and wants to play.

Auto start favour the latter and I like that.

If you want to go do other things, why not leave the game and just make a new one when back? It is in my opinion, no offense, quite rude to waste other players' time by sitting in a game that players join just to learn is a dead end...

A good middle road here would be an option for a game owner to tag the game as inactive, making it not appear on the lists (like private games), until you toggle it back to active status. That would make it even less cumbersome for you to take small breaks to do what ever else other than being focused on the game.
