Ignoring the user, if offensive/absive isn't a good idea IMO, we do have a lot of children that use the site, and I would urge all users to send a complaint about users out to misbehave, mainly so we can all enjoy the site that little bit more!

Aye, Katie has covered nearly all the points from a mod point-of-view. It is voluntary work and do live life's outside FP. Try and use the 'Send complaint' function; It would help mods/admins out a lot. I've done this today and the person I reported will be dealt with accordingly behind the scenes. I know that happened because I remember what happens behind the scenes.

i'm speakin on behalf of my m8s name so u wont know who i am, now we need undercover mods so in a way there member name shows as member with the way things goes, like in the chat room as so as a mod enters the room 50% of the time the swearing stops, so it would be handy 4 undercover mods. now i'm goin 2 voluntar as my username and not my m8's.
if ur out there at some point nick this username will pm u when ur online and will give u my usermane if ur intresed.
thank u 4 ur time..

If people are being offensive and there are no moderators around, simply use the send complaint feature and they will be dealt with.
Edit - also please note that posting using multiple usernames can lead to those names being banned without warning as per site rules.

Hahaha Saves nick making another game, we could make that game official, get less points if there were newbies in the room etc pmsl..
In all seriousness It's a silly idea really, people would soon find out who the 'undercovers' are.
I heard ages ago something mentioned about mods being completely invisible in a room. This could invade privacy a bit I suppose though.

... or in any online environment.
First rule of being online - the moment you connect to the internet you must assume that every piece of information on your computer, and especially anything you send or recieve via the internet, is out there for anyone to see.

The idea is to set, and/or make an example... not to just boot boot boot... the mods are there to ensure the rules of the site are followed, and the more users the better obviously, so I don't think 'undercover mods' would help anything.
I would personally prefer users that have been calmed, and be let aware of the rules than users just disappearing here, there and everywhere!

But they do get warned in the chat room about their conduct initially and only then get booted for repeat occurrences, am I right?

It differs from case to case... no warning is necessarily needed, seeing as when the rule is broken, it is in the moderators duty to do everything in their power to ensure that stops.
Giving a warning in the room, like said before, can make an example not to act in the way a certain user may be... and if they stop, great! if not, then it will then make an example of the fact that if constant rule breaking occurs, there can only be one outcome.

Great! Lets get this set up now. You two set up the PAYE from your own bank accounts, cos all the mods will need paying if you want to take away the voluntary bit, and I will do my best to make sure none of them come online off-shift

You've got to consider people's own personal lives. Moderators who were selected have been so based on many factors and regular log ins are part of that criteria. You can't expect people to log in at certain times.
Like JSG said it is impossible to have at least 1 Moderator on at all times, as other things in life are a priority. Remember being a Moderator is volunteering to help out as and when you can and it still remains a game even to the moderators.
