Just an idea, what do we think of creating Ranking Tournament games?
Could be done in the same way as there are tournament variations such as Marathon Tournaments and Speed Tournaments. Could there not be occasional Ranking Tournaments too?

there could be but its pointless what if you were 888 and were playing a 700 you wouldnt want to play them but if u win a tourney you could have like 10 points on that game :)

Ranking tournament games is something which has been suggested many times and something i strongly support.

I'd be delighted to see all tournaments ranked, but having a few each day would be a start

It would go some way to help make rankings more meaningful as an indication of ability and provide added incentive to play tournaments.

Reading this post Spinner, it would appear to me that you consider the current rankings as meaningless and agree that something, whether it be ranking tournaments or other, should be done to change them to a more meaningful system!! Sounds like the catalyst for change to me Ideas on a postcard .........

I for one think it's a good idea and wouldn't mind seeing ALL tournys made ranked.

It would even be a good idea to have a seeding system in the tourny draws, like e.g. tennis etc, where the highest seeded players end up on different halves of the game tree. What this would accomplish (apart from the obvious goal of preventing the finalist players meeting in round 1), would be to negate the desire some players have for sitting at an artificially low rank. I quite frankly don't care what, but *some* incentive should exist for all players to have as high rank as they can possibly manage at all times. As long as that is not the case, rankings will never have any real meaning.

i think ranked tourny's is bad as i get enjoyment out of playing them and also not worrying about losing points

I think we should have separate "tournament points"

This could work like normal ranking, except that these points can only be won and lost in tournaments...

9ballskill and macky3214, i agree that not all tournaments should be ranked, so if you want to play for fun or only play friendlies then you can still play in some/most tournaments

Make it non-resettable while you're at it.

This is a game. By its very definition, ALL you do here is just for fun - ranked or not. If people seriously feel they can't play ranked games and choose to play tournys to escape the pressure of losing points... well then you are taking this game a wee bit too seriously - IMHO.

I just wanted to point out that when people take rankings seriously enough to actually let it freak them out and let it be something to get worked up over.... it's time to sit back and take a few deep breaths, remembering it's just a game lol

Far too many people get their panties in a bunch when losing or having a bad day.

Nothing wrong with ambition, I can hardly deny having a fair share myself, but there's nothing preventing you from combining it with a healthy dose of "it's just a game" mentality anyway.

I dont think the tournements should be ranked each round u play. But i think that u should definately win some ranking points for winning the tournement!

look guys, this has been discussed a million and three times before (figure of speech )

from the past, the general concenus was that we wouldnt like it.....but now it seems that support is rising for it.

I wouldnt mind one or 2 per day....but how about only like half rank points. Because if you have it at full ranking, an 800 might play a 650 and the 650 may fluke a win or the 800 may be disconnected and he gains 10 points.....halve the ranking points I say and lets start at 2-3 tournaments per day for this

I reckon something where you are awarded points on how far you get rather than who you beat, something like 10pts for tourney win, 5pts for tourney runner-up and 3pts for semi-finals is a good shout.

You obviously would only adjust rank for the games you actually play (the ones you start anyway, getting disconnected mid-game should obviously cost rank, just like in normal ranked games)
