From what I have seen of the people in this country aged 21 and under, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to return to the days when 2 years National Service between the ages of 16 and 21 (at a time of the individuals choosing!) is inevitable. If thats doesn't instil discipline into the little gits I dunno what will!!!!!

I agree, after several series of bad lads army, you think the government will think...aaaaah now thats a good idea.
Bring back corperal punishment in schools too, the adults need the return of authority, that has been lacking

I agree on this as well Grae.
Though i think it should fall into the category of 16 - 19 as that seems to be the most common number for wannabe rebels.
Good call!!!

Great idea i think the criminal justice system here in the uk is a joke. Alot of the young offenders here being issued with ASBO's are treating them as trophys bring back national service that will wip them into shape

I've been a supporter of this idea for a long time. Although I do think it should only be used on layabouts and yobs who plague normal people.
Don't worry though Tally; if you're a good boy, you don't have to go!
As for corporal punishment being brung back in schools...... NO! Never gonna happen, and shouldn't! If I found out some teacher had raised a hand (ruler or cane) to my child he'd be straight of my christmas card list.......FOREVER!

I'd be hugely in favour of this too.
Regarding corporal punishment in schools, its another example of the modern "one size must fit all" attitude to things.
The idea that a teacher would be considered wrong to physically pull a 12 year old away from beating up a 6 year old is, in my opinion, sick. But thats how it is now.
Replace Asbo's with birches, or bring back the stocks.
If you think thats "extreme", tell that to the families of the granparents who are getting beaten up and set on fire for these yobs amusement. I firmly believe the "human rights" people who sympathise with these pathetic beings are those who simply like to cause, and be involved in, controversy.
Nobody who genuinely cared about the rights of their fellow humans would ever allow these people close to any of them again.
Er, sorry, bit of a rant there.
Yeah, bring back national service pronto!

There's no point bringing back national service for everyone. Anyway, it would cost too much. Just replace ASBOs with a stint on the front line in Iraq... and if their behaviour doesn't improve after that, send them back for seconds. With any luck, they'll come back in a box.

We have seperate schools for 6 and 12 year olds on the mainland
Anyway John if you see this, the cane, strap, never did us anyharm, it taught us dicipline, even if it was the 'fear factor' although the real hard nuts were immune to it and being stuck outside the headmasters office and then being in public view for the punishment (the office was overlooked by the play ground)was a test of bravery for them and made a statement to others, the potential trouble makers though, thought twice, not many can say that two lashes of the strap across the palms of the hand is being 'hard'.Once bitten twice shy for most.
Discipline has got to start somewhere, and the adolescant years are a very good place....the school and home.

Really, adolescence is too late for a lot of people. The seeds of misbehaviour are sown very young, but teenagers are better able to abuse this than younger children. It's hard for me to say, having never been a parent myself, but surely at least some responsibility lies with the parents. They should be teaching respect and good behaviour before the child even reaches school. Teachers should be there to teach, not make up for poor discipline not instilled by parents.
Back on topic, National Service may benefit some younger people, but I teaching a yob to use a gun is not necessarily the best idea in the world

They wont be taught to use a gun, its far more than that National Service, only and only when they have been proved there worth are they allowed to handle guns, guns that are harmless as a firearm.
Its about discipline, team work, respect and modelling into a decent human being.
As far as the school/home situation is? theres not enough communication these days, between the two and if there is its either the school doesnt give a stuff, or the parents dont, its one or the other or in real bad cases...both.
Yes adolescance maybe too late, reading back i agree, we had punishment in our Primary schools.
There is a lack of moral values these days across the spectrum

We should adopt the "operation human sheild" from the South Park movie and just tie chavs onto the sides of tanks and planes.
