Hey guys! I barely post on the forum but it doesn't hurt to...
Yesterday I almost ran on a turtle (about 30cm big). And I decided to keep it.
I'm still not sure if it is Land Turtle, Water Turtle (not sea) and Semi of both. But I did build a habitat with a little lake (I used a plastic container but I'm gonna replace it with a plastic bag under the dirt and fill it with water). There is a hidding spot underground and a Hidding spot above it. There is a little brick wall so it doesn't escape. The habitat is made if dirt but I'm soon gonna add some leaf and grass to make it feel more humid. It does have sunny spots and shady spots.
Now my problem is the food. I followed instructions I found on the Internet and gave it vegetables (carrots, bananas, strawberries..., but not letuce). I gave it little meat too but he wont eat. I know it takes a few weeks before it eats regulary but I'm kinda worry because it didn't eat it at all. I gave it water and it Drinks it .
Help!

I had a little water turtle back when I lived in Belgium and it took a month before the turtle started to eat in front of me.

I did that already... the first thing right after building the habitat so the turtle couldn't escape while i did some searches.
And it did escape . I found it 3 minutes later

Have you tried returning it to it's real owners?
If not, then that would be the right and moral thing to do.......
If you know nothing about Turtles, then I suggest you start using a forum and mixing with people whom have either owned or still own one. Although I do think you should try and locate where it's escaped from first!
If you think it's a wild turtle then it needs returning to the wild mate....

It is a wild turtle... it's a male turtle.... It eats plants, fruits, vegetables, Sometimes meat. And I figured out it's a semiwater semiland (looked at the claws and between the claws). But it likes more the land
He doesn't live inside my home... I spent monday and yesterday digging and building a home in my backyard (which he escaped once). There's water to swim on, water to drink, I placed A LOT of plants to eat.. I made a little home underground (which he doesn't go much) and a home I made on top (and he sleeps in it).
It's about the size of a ruler (30cm). I walk it when I'm home so he can get a Sun bath to get active (they are cold blood animals).
Like I said earlier, I had a baby water turtle before and took care of it (clean the aquarium every week, feed...ect). So I know a little about them. I love turtle, that's why I kept it...
Edit: A friend told me it was a chicken turtle but she wasn't that smart (chicken turtles have long neck and not this one).

Dave, from reading your posts you seem to know a lot about them and how to care for them.
KEEP IT!
Your doing a great job
Return it to the wild ONLY WHEN you feel you cant look after it any longer.

Thanks justsumgirl, but I released it yesterday, near a swamp. He went swimming in it and that's just it.
I couldn't really keep it because I felt like he was in Jail. I mean, by the size he is, he is already a year old or more... so he is not used being boxed. Plus, he didn't eat much and tried to get away from me.
But I will buy a box turtle (5 times smaller) and will take care of it.

If you look at turtle claws and the botton of the shell (the "belly"), you can tell the sex (only when the turtle is old and big, it's really hard on babies).
Males have concave belly (to fit on the female) and female have convex (for the eggs). Male have long claws and female short ones. Also, male have long thin tail and not the female.
Mine was male.

You should NEVER cage a WILD animal up. Would you like to be taken from your natural habitat to be put in a false one?
You done the right thing in the end, Dave. Let this be a lesson to everyone.....
