Also, random pairings will cut out the arguments of whom goes with whom...

if we had random pairings and some body had to play with a newbie for eg would they just think sod it and not bother carrying on with the tourny!i can see this being widespread with a lot of disappointed ppl who have been dq because someone did not want to pair up with them.personnaly i think doubles is a great idea it does not sound very straight forward to implement.

We'd only end up with say Smithbit and Cityfan as partners, or something along those lines. Not much fun in it for the smaller players if people get to pick their partner.

If you can choose your partners then nothing really changes does it. The intermediates would still be intermediate and the virtuosos would still be virtuoso

the tournies still get newbie entries and i do beleive they find it fun,am sure they would not find that if they have been dq,if you ask me it sounds like more of a challenge,i dont like the idea of newbies holding the title for winning a tourny because they had a virt as a partner,it would make my achievment of 1 tourny win not so great(i am proud of this 1 tourny lol)and ofcourse there is the issue of fake newbies!!!

what would happen if someones internet cut out or one of the players had to attend an emergency of some discription??

if one leaves, i imagine that both would be DQ...that why it should just be a single thing. Doubles isnt a bad idea but its the complications with it.

Funnily enough the game doesn't revolve around the "better" players.

You only want to choose your partner so you end up with Gerry all the time or somebody else.

I think the general consensus is that everybody should be equal in a tournament and the only way that can happen is if you randomly get assigned a partner.

As SM_Rat pointed out, all the arguments it would 'cause with the better players pairing with the other better players, it takes the fun out of Funkypool for the majority of players.

No the game doesnt revolve around the better players- but they are just as important as everybody else.
Everybody is completley missing my point here. If you assign people randomly then a lot of people will get DQD. For example davyb1 gets drawn with arcticspark in a uk doubles tourny.
He looks at his partners stats and decides they are nowhere near his level and whats worse they drew quick_pot and cityfan84.
He aint gonna turn up and arcticspark

will get DQD thru no fault of their own.

If you can choose your partners, then nothing has changed and thats the way it should be.

So what if all the good players go together, not all of them will and some intermediates will get paired with professionals.

I think youd find the site got a lot friendlier if you could pick your partner, with people wanting to get in tight with people so they can do doubles.
I would rather play doubles with someone i get on with than someone who is amazing at the game.
Basic point being, if you are going to bring in doubles dont randomly assign partners all the time.
Maybe if there are say 4 doubles tournaments a day, there could be one with a random pairing for a lil spice but keep the main bit so you can choose who you want to play with.
Tournaments do not need devaluing for not so good players by just being a passenger on another tourny win for their random partner quick_pot

Majority of people dont play tornaments say 70 people average out of over 100,000 players right, so only minority will have "fun taken out"

Also you will know all the other partnerships when you sign up as you can see who has registered for the tourny!

Maybe a rule no same partner ship for more than 1 tourny a day? as i dont see them being a regular occurence

so for example mike & smithbit uk doubles mike and me us8 double mike and joe bloggs 9 ball etc
