I entered my first UK 8 Ball tourney last night (got to the final ;-) ) I noticed that my opponents in the semi's and final played a cheeky shot when i scratched the cue ball.

Basically, i scratched the cue ball when i only had one ball remaining, my opponent would then pot my one remaining ball before clearing up. I thought this would result in a foul but obviously not.

Can somebody explain this rule? Apologies for my ignorance i am an 8 Ball man!!

well mate thats the free ball rule, its not an official rule in world pool but it is in many pubs and here on funky, basically if your opponent fouls on your first shot you can play ANY ball including the black, or pot ANY ball excluding the black. It is the main reason for the tactical nature of uk8 ball

Yeah....Most people play that shot to clear the table abit. So when it comes to clearing the table, You got more chance of not getting snookered if you land behind thier ball or sumin

Cheers ruddan_06_. I actually thought that it was to clear the table - but then i thought there must be some other type of bonus for doing this.

i play this shot sometimes in order to keep the two shots as you have to pot the ball to keep the shots and if the ball is not in hand you cant always do this

Most play people it to get better position on their own ball tbh...
