i really want to put this idea forward..

i know you cant say swear words and that but u can get past the filter..

you can bet that less then 10% of people accually read these.. and even to get past the filter they say .. .. which really peeves me. i would like every one to read this and post if they agree or disagree that there should be a new chat filter which stops this.. and stops people using the chat room as a dating agency or to say how u get sexually pleasured.. * which i have heard in chat before.. * so please post you'r thaughts and i WILL be showing this to nick

Whether they actually read them or not, do remember that by signing up all users confirm that they have read, understood, and agreed with the site rules.

The chat filter is constantly updated, as can be seen by browsing these forums.

yeh i know m8 but how about updating it so u cant cuss or put spaces in the word and enter it as a swear word??

Many new words/versions of old words, are added regularly, however sometimes there has to be a balance when words (or parts thereof) have multiple meanings.

At the end of the day, as you say, the rules are there. If you circumvent the chat filter, you risk being booted or banned.

i dont see why ur so peeved about the chat filter, they are just words, yea in some cases offensive but there is always going to be away around things. funky pools chat filter is fine the way it is, those who "trick" it usually end up getting booted, and if ur in a game and someone is continuously harassing you then there is a report button. If the chat filter was any more strict you wouldnt be able to use simple words like assassin, assume, there are more but im too tired to think of them all. and im some cases one word could end with a certain letter, and then the next word (separated by a space) could begin in another, making a swear word in the middle. chat filters are not people they cant determine how the word comes up, just that it did and its not allowed. so the stricter the chat filter the more of a pain in the butt it is to actually have a conversation.

no one reads terms and conditions and rules...its liek going through the whole terms and conditions that you have to agree to on an airline ticket or getting a Microsoft product....not many people read them unless they are really BORED

im only worried about the BIG words that people use that offends people, not the ones most people use to heat up convosations (like S and BS) but words like F, C, W Sl__ and other derogatory words like that are the ones I hate.

Otherwise it doesnt bother me. Perents swear infront of there kids (accidental or not)...it happens, people will hear bad words and you just cant stop them

Funkypool has clearly become gripped by the nanny state mindset the staff go about their business.

I mean the word "G@y" is banned, why? Its a sexual orientation if anything its offensive that its banned.

Everyone who signs up knows that by doing so they have confirmed that they have read, understood and agreed to the sites terms and conditions.

If they dont read them, they just serve to make themselves look incredibly stupid by using their registered account to disagree with the terms, and therefore, themselves.



No. The staff simply follow the rules, and do what the users have agreed to.

As stated above, if anyone doesn't agree with the site conditions, they have the choice of not signing up. Simple in the extreme.



lewis - this is one of the most frequent points brought up by new users. Please take the time to read through the forums and you will find plenty of information on the decisions to filter that word in particular.

If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it at all, Lewis. No one is forcing you to come here.



And as for derogatory words being blocked: The reason this is so is because in this day and age, most words like that are offensive and used in a offensive way.

I think you'll find its called an opinion Katie, forums are to express your opinion. And thats my opinon!

It's certainly something a big number of members will use in a deroatory way, but as you've shown you can just make the 'a' into '@' which then makes g@y and perhaps therefore gives the word a bigger impact? I'd like to see that one word off the swear filter and left to moderator judgment now as I feel it's a word to describe ones orientation and a common source of conversation.

However Lewis, I find it very unfair that you refer to moderators as having a 'nanny state mindset.' You talk of ignorence, I suggest you look to your own as I'm offended at being stereotyped when you don't know me, as will most of the other mods, and admin!

If you want to moan about the goverment banning words, then I believe you have the wrong thread. There's a politics thread on General Chat somewhere if you'd like to have a rant? I'm sure you'll find some of the conversations on there enjoyable.
