None of this "That is politically incorrect" stuff

I just think this PC world has gone to peoples heads, now kids cant fall in a school yard without being sued... so they banned running in my little brother's school... talk about robbing kids of their childhood.

And these PC terms we have to use, non-irish national to term immegrants, they're immegrants, nothin derogatory about that, it's in the dictionary for crying out loud..

Banning running etc isnt really down what i'd call PC.

Thats a result of the "who can i blame" society.

Theres no such thing as an accident anymore. I still believe someone who walks into a lampost is stupid. But, seriously, if the accident lawyers find out the lampost isnt erected in exactly the right place, and the right way, the the person who erected it is to blame.

Falling down a manhole is another one.. Well, actually, thats where the Political Correctess creeps in.

Manholes don't exist anymore. They're now personholes.*

*this is not a joke. Sadly.

In some instances its useful, its offensive to discriminate against someone because of their colour, ethnicity, cultural beliefs etc.

One example that still baffles me is blackboard, you know, that thing in a classroom, its a board, its black, yet its politically correct term is chalkboard. But classrooms now have white boards? Need I say more....

They did that when I was at school, we just bought our own in instead (!), or we played with tennis balls that were easier to conceal

The one that got me was:

You cant say "midget" anymore (No offence), you have to say:

"Persons of restricted growth"

I mean, how bonkers can you get!

Just heard another one....

You cant say someone is "disabled"....

You have to call them "differently abled"

How mad is that!

Saddest thing about a lot of this is that the people who are now being "categorised" in this fashion, often find the PC attitude very patronising and ultimately more hurtful than "traditional" terms.

As i have said before on these forums, i know homosexual people who find the "fashionable" G-word extemely offensive.

Freedom of speech is an admirable policy, sadly it can no longer exist, due to the lack of universal acceptance and unconditional respect for fellow humans.

(see - i can be serious...)

My lecturers say we're not allowed to call the black market by that name any more (PC way is an Illicit market).

Then a black woman in my tutorial group said that she cant remember it any other way and argued with them

Calling someone black, brown or white really doesn't seem offensive in anyway to me, its an observation of a characteristic of the said person yet doesn't make them any different to the person next to them or yourself.

This gets me thinking about what the reason is for being 'politically correct'. The people who make these things up obviously think that everyone is different. If everyone felt equal there wouldn't be a need. Therefore everyone who is politicaly correct thinks that some people are better than others thus making them politically incorrect for making a politically correct statement.

If that makes no sense (which i'm guessing is the case) it's gone 2am (again) and its not my fault

Here in Australia, one of the companies recuiting Santas for shopping centres is stopping them from saying 'Ho ho ho', saying it could be scary to children and offensive to women.

Now, my point is how many years has Santa said 'Ho ho ho' and why is it all of a sudden scary to children and offensive to women????

To "discriminate" orginally just meant "able to differentiate between two things". But somewhere along the line, it became a negative term.

Politically correct? You bet. Cannot go anywhere without worrying if someone is following you, waiting for you to slip up. Unfortunately, a lot of events in history show that this is unlikey to change - that humans, no matter how peaceful we become, will still find ways to belittle someone else. It's our nature.

The teachers are now not allowed to say a "bain-storm" as it was offensive to less academically abled students....

INstead it is now "Thought shower"

Political correctness is becoming everywhere!

They dont know when to stop!
