nice to see that you will play a member whatever the rank (not many do) i think its fair mate you where just unlucky ( thats the gamble) although it was prob a bit harsh for you i bet that lower ranked player was well happy. my point is that if a true newbie got a GB to a high ranked player there going to want to come back and play more, which has to be good for the site.

This threads intention is to purely enquire about whether this situation that i have been put in is fair upon me and other high ranked players and 'not' to complain.
I am fairly high ranked in 8 ball uk and was just wanting to play any willing user not matter what the rank as i believe it is correct for me to play lower ranked users to help them. However, one of them did a golden break. Obviously i lost a lot of points.
Fair or unfair?

Well i did get a reply of
"hahahahahahahaha"
from the user
But hey if thats how they want to react then let them I just had to return the favour with a streak of 7 wins
It wasnt infact a newbie which i was playing, if it was i would of infact been better off because my loss would have been decreased due to the user simply being a newbie.

My point of this thread was perhaps introducing a limit to the points gained/lost when a golden break is achieved.
Thoughts on that?

Man i dont want to come across that im having a snipe at you, you didnt mention that this thread was solely about the idea of reducing the points lost when an opponent wins by virtue of a GB. Iv had arguments with people before about GB's which I wont get into (all luck) but if a lad gets lucky against you thats just the rub of the green! Have to take it as it comes...

Personally, I'd like to see GBs in 8-ball be registered as foul shots. That way, you lose the game if you sink the black off the break as you would in a real game. That's been discussed before though, and most people seem to disagree with me.
As far as ranking points are concerned, sometimes you just get unlucky. It's all part of the game. As long as a GB is seen as a win, the points change should be the same as for any other win.

In my opinion, it's fair, you chose to play the slightly lower rank users and im sure you took into account the things that could happen to make you lose? In your case a Golden Break, could even be a foul on the black. But yes, it's fair

Yep, there's a fundamental difference between the two of where the responsibility lies, I just used it as an example of something else that can be considered (more) unfair. (potting the black is not greater or smaller fault against a lowbie compared to a 900+ player, now is it?)

Janmb it in my opinion is your own fault if you foul and pot the black causing your opponent to win, however, a golden break is an unstoppable loss.

I for one don't. It should technically been a foul
Not sure I agree with this tho... it's pretty much the same deal as with fouling on a black.... in the cases of GBs, as well as fouls on black, the rank shift for that game should been a flat rate and not weighted like for normal games.
Hardly anything worth making a big deal out of tho lol, just trying to outline the (failed) logic in all this.

i think if your on the recieving end of a golden break or run out then you have shown no lack of skill so should not have your rank decreased however a golden break for you is an achievement showing skill therefore ur rank should inrease
