This threads intention is to purely enquire about whether this situation that i have been put in is fair upon me and other high ranked players and 'not' to complain.

I am fairly high ranked in 8 ball uk and was just wanting to play any willing user not matter what the rank as i believe it is correct for me to play lower ranked users to help them. However, one of them did a golden break. Obviously i lost a lot of points.

Fair or unfair?

I think was good of you playing low ranked, however golden breaks are unexpected, i think it's unfair, but hey that's what makes it funky

Not criticising - But it was your choice to play these games.

If one did a golden break it might have been pure luck!

When I was a newbie in 8 ball, I ran out and I hadn't played over 50 games. And most of the pots were complete flukes.

Maybe you just got unlucky mate

It's fair because it's within the rules of the game as it stands, but i guess liking it or not is a completely different matter.

You can cut down on the chances of it happening though, maybe start by avoiding these players: http://www.funkypool.com/viewRankingsFull.do?subGameName=goldenbreaks&gameName=8balluk

I notice you have 19 of your own dark_cloud, so out of interest do you think it's fair regardless of status?

this has been brought up a few times in my 22 months or so on funkypool, i see no problem with them, what you need to remember is that if you go for golden break you must be able to hack it when goldens are done against you, what ever there rank is

Just beat them 10-1 instead of 10-0. Score still goes up that way.

It's fair. The game is still won or lost by getting a golden break so points should still be awarded / deducted.

'Twas your choice to play anyone, Chris. If you didn't want the risk of losing so many points, make it private next time.

Its fair, but also unlucky to happen to you

Golden breaks are a good thing to have and to be proud of, but it makes you feel gutted if you lose by one and lose alot of points lol

golden breaks take a fair bit of talent mate. i have done 20 and they didnt come easy because if u look at the amount of games i have played 20 is not much. Its just one of they things that you have to put up with, or learn how to do it yourself and for a low rank to do it.....go luck to him !!

In fairness, absolutely fair. You know the risks of playing a lower ranked player in terms of point drops, however it seems to me that your arrogance never adopted the possibility that you might just lose the frame. Low ranks or not, everyone is capable of winning a game!

I forgot to mention that i would possibly like to see a limit put on to the amount of points the user achieves when they do a golden break.

I have infact achieved 72 golden breaks as my previous account was mr_dudey but i still dont believe it is fair as it is no representation of skill as such.

Therefore my idea was considering whether it would be best to:

a) Reduce both the amount deducted from the 'victim' and the amount gained from the user breaking off.

or

b) Simply limit the amount a player can lose when he/she loses this way.

Please bear in mind i am not complaining just wondering peoples thoughts on this matter.

My arrogance is non-existant, please dont just bite at me for enquiring peoples thoughts on the situation.

I see no biggie with that .. stuff happens...

Another rare event which IS somewhat unfair tho is potting black against a lowbie... costing you the same big chunk of rank while the mistake you did was no bigger or smaller than it would be vs. a virtouso.

Janmb it in my opinion is your own fault if you foul and pot the black causing your opponent to win, however, a golden break is an unstoppable loss.

Nowadays, i reckon it's luck if you get a GB off a GB attempt.
