Just wondering do the "oldies" think that the standard of pool has increased or decreased from the site started?

The standard of pool by my view has definately increased a hell of a lot!
But pro's fakeing that they are newbies doesnt help the situation.

It has decreased quite alot in my opinion, there used to be lots of top players around, now there is only an handfull.

Isn't that because the standards have gone up quite considerably, that those top players have needed to get better or disappear in anonymity.

I agree, only having 2 virts in UK 8 isn't right!!

I agree with Colins, I think the competition has grown, and made it alot harder for the top players!

The reason people find it harder to reach top ranks nowadays is that there are so many high quality players cancelling each other out.

I've been playing since poolsharks days, and despite the 'legend' status applied to so many players across the years, the majority of current gameplay is much more sharp, accurate and intelligent. Back then some players were definitely in a class of their own, but mainly because they had much easier opposition.

Standards are getting higher all the time. Even in the last six months I've seen the tactical play on US 8 ball improve to an incredible degree.

I'm not as good as I used to be, and I can still beat anyone, not consistantly anymore but still can.

About 18 months back when I was at my very best I couldn't claim that.

The standard at the top is decreasing but the standard of lower players is increasing.


Cant really comment on the US games as i've never been any good at them

There is also other factors in this, back in the day the amount you could win from 1 game wasnt 4 points , it was 3 points max if you was basically 675 rank against a 900 rank and won.

but now 800 rank can win nearly 3 points of 700 rank. it is essentially easier for people to get higher ranks now.

the standard in my opinion has decreased a lot , a hell of a lot, also there isnt a community of top players like there use to be back in the day. you would always see many top names online, whereas now there is only about 30 commonly online ""top players""

also back in the day you would be amazed by virtuoso ranks , and at a point there was 3 and 2 close... now you see basically the same but considering the point change they should be a lot higher ranking.... this shows that the standards of players have gone down.
if the standard of players in the old days played with the score rank winnings now then there wud be a lot higher scores than many people cud imagine.

i would give any of the old players a run for there money lol the standard in my opinion i sprobs the same, this is because the people who were virtuose before, have restarted and now newbies/imtermeidiates, meaning less high profile players around, you will probs find in couple months there will be way more virtuosos as they would of had time to re-make there stats, me however dont play ranked, so im just hoping to be in top 50 tourney wins, doesnt mean im a bad player though just because im 675 rank lmao

The fact that there isn't as much of the top players about is no argument that the general standard is higher.

It should in fact be the opposite, the fact that the top players are no longer top players means that the rest of the field has caught up and they haven't improved.

The general standard is higher, but the highest standard of play isn't as high as it used to be.

The standard has changed, im not sure if its up or down. those who were new when the champions were around years ago are taking over, and most of the champions are gone. The game used to be cut in 3 classes, and with a few games played you could classify someone. Nowadays everyone is a pro, and the amount of good players has gone up. Everyone is reaching and fighting for that 900, whereas years ago everyone was going for 1000.
The reason that so many players can now be virtuoso is the generation of points after every game. A ton of points have been generated since those days and that means the better players can steal them more easily

how long has the rankings been done as they are with 800 for pro etc cos i thought it wasnt that long ago that it was only to 100?

It wasnt on funkypool as such i dont think, think that ranking system was implemented on poolsharks.


More to do with the topic i personally think the top player standard has decreased a lot, i remember when the top players were unbeatable by adepts or low ranked pro's. I think many have transfered over to snooker to be honest and so over there a divide has been made between top players and the rest.

The 100 ranking system was on funkypool for over a year

i think that ranking sytem of 100 should be brought back, ive never played it before, so would be nice to see it, that way then it gives people chance to compare them and see which rankin system is better

Not a good idea. The old system used to have many players on the same rating, you could drop from 1st place to around 40th with 1 loss.

The new system is much better.
