its too late for everyone now but for the younger people still in primary school, it could save them.

IF people DO stop smoking though.

I doubt very much EVERYONE will give up.

What happened to smoking and non-smoking areas? did they not work?

Them poxy signs make me laugh what do they actually do to prevent the smoke traverling around the rooms? The smoke get to the non smokers sign and go oh no not allowed in there.

Personally it dont bother me the ban i hardly smoke when i am out for some reason feel alot better the next day if i dont drink and smoke

Its always gunna be Smokers verses Non Smokers.

Everyones gunna think they are right.

I can still see it from both sides.

Slight twist here - i've never smoked, thankfully i'm not old enough to have missed the education bit

However i've always asked people who do smoke, whats the point?

Never yet in the years i've asked, has anyone been able to tell me.

(note - "because i want to" isnt an answer! LOL!)

The smoking ban has been a great success in Ireland,i am a smoker myself but the difference in pubs and clubs is brilliant, clear and u can see peopleyou dont come home with a big smell of smoke of ur clothes as well, definitely better for non smokers,i do enjoy a cigarette in the pubs in England if im there but it is much better without it,also u get to have a good chat with randomers outside when drunk,in Ireland they only sell twentys now,is it the same in England?

Smoking...smelly, disgusting, and gets on peoples nerves.
Great isn't it?

Cannot stand smoking. Does my head in and i'm glad it's banned in pubs (been banned up here for about a year). Least i can now enjoy a pint without choking to death.

I think this is an un-fair comment to make. Have you ever been addicted to something?

I began smoking because when i was a teen i thought i was invincible, and didn't care too much about dying also. This is natural with alot of teens. Luckily as i got older and unfitter i realised it was now or never, and i've been quit 5 years. I would never call a smoker stupid, they don't need me to tell them, they already know, i also have alot of sympathy for the ones who find it hard to stop.

So there's your answer Spinner, a good one i think. I was invincible!

As for the smoking ban, i can see both sides, but this country is all about maintaining life, be a bit contradictory to not stop it. Also it will save money for the NHS over the next 60+ years, regardless of the tax the goverment will be losing.

it was never the intention to help people too stop smoking, Its sole purpose was too stop non smokers from breathing in second hand smoke.
Iam an ex smoker and i would agree with the ban even if i was still smoking....Its a good thing in my opinion

i know its a bad deal for smokers, but they will get used too it, when i smoked, i never smoked indoors at home nor did i go in a smoking area at a restraunt, i never wanted to let others suffer for my bad habit.

BTW im not anti smoker, 20 years of smoking, im in no position too preach, I, as an ex smoker can be compasionate to both sides

isnt part of the law they have to be at least 4 metres away from any entrance or open window?
I know it is in the work place, so i guess it applies to pubs as well as people work in them
