in England they have to have little bins on the wall for them to be placed into, you see them outside evry pub, that complies fully with the law

isnt part of the law they have to be at least 4 metres away from any entrance or open window?
I know it is in the work place, so i guess it applies to pubs as well as people work in them

This is a part of the law they are being very slow in enforcing up here.

Seems to be setting in now though. The fact more places have had time to build special area's has helped with that issue too.

Our council has banned smoking in any of its grounds, so the doorways for everything from cleaners sheds to hospitals are spotless and clean again.

Interesting reply John, and you answered my question. Funny how things vary. When i was about 12-13 i remember one of the gang turning up with a pack of fags thinking it would be fun. He was ridiculed for literally years for ever thinking about it.

Guess i was lucky growing up. Only one member of our class smoked, and she was a girl who moved here in her late teens and had already started. Poor girl got so much stick looking back on it, and still doesn't fit in much to this day.

I'm not anti-smoking at all. My mum smoked all her life, and i'd never consider asking anyone to stop. As you say John they already know how stupid it is.

Your story shows the big difference in our societies. I've stood at bus stops with my son and had kids as young as 13 smoke, they're never to pleased when i tell them to either stand outide the bus stop, or put it out, in fact some of them say make me...........

My Mum, and Grandparents all smoked, none of us kids do (well my brother smokes someetimes, but not toally tobacco if you catch my drift) I'm still partial to the odd cigar every now and then, although i suppose that'll stop now.

i would be on both sides of the fence but its the fact of the passive smoking that makes me agree with the ban plus a lot healthier place to be when your eating etc..

OK i agree with it but,

beware you English folk of the scourge of the smoking ban!! If you spend enough time in clubs you will realise. When the smoke was there before you couldnt smell THE PEOPLE!!!

Sometime im in a busy club and its quite bad.

people go on about choice, if people chose to smoke does that mean i have to chose to breathe passive smoke?

if they wish to smoke a rolled up piece of tobacco which can lead to:
- Lung cancer
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Heart disease
- Other cancers
- Increased risk of atheroma
- Sexual problems
- Ageing
- Infertility
- Earlier Menopause for women

Smoking also acts as an irritant to people suffering from asthma. This is equivalent to walking up to someone with asthma and spraying aerosol all round them. Would you be prepared to do that to someone? If you smoke you do it already.
