Hey all... Here's my idea. Basically the world champion (in each discipline, naturally) is decided by pitting the current champion against someone who challenges him/her, and then they play, say, first to 3 wins, and then the result is posted here!!! Quite simple really...

Basically it's based on a challenge format, just like boxing's world championships are, i.e. the world heavyweight champion remains the champion until someone beats him and then that person is the new world champion. Snooker used be that way too in the 1960's.

The only problem this faces is deciding who the current champion is in each discipline in order to get the ball rolling. Do we give to nick, Funkypool's founder? Do we give it to the No 1 player in each discipline? Or the player with most wins as statistically they'd be most likely to be champion if this had been going from the start? Or me, as the competition's inventor? Ideas, folks... let's get it rolling!!!

If any of you is (are) still confused, looky at this:

It's the same idea applied to world football. The page hasn't been updated since October 2006, btw...

this is a great idea!

but the only thing is, what if somebody who hardly plays wants to have ago at the champ? maybe if there is a few people who want to have ago at him, the champ decides how to make it fair, i.e make play offs to se number one contender so to speak.

and i think you should start off as champ, and see then who wants to come and take you on and like i said, maybe if there are more than 1 person wanting to have ago at the same time, you need to come up with a way to make it fair, rather than just let the champ decide who he plays.

hope that makes sense and helps

i forgot to say count me in aswell!

how about everyone has to sign up, a nd only the people who sign up can have a go at being champ? i mean people can sign up anytime but it would probably make it easier.

just another idea

My thinking was that whoever the champion was, then that person when next online would put his championship on the line, in a quite irregular fashion, as such, as opposed to any serious planning. I.e. say xxxxx (I made that up) is champion, then he's online and I'm online and I say "Hey xxxxx, I'll challenge you for the championship" and he says "It's on"! and I say "OH IT'S ON!!!" etc and after a lot of chest-sticking-out and bravado we then do battle, best of 5 or best of 7 or play for an hour or whatever, and then someone posts the results here. And if a draw is possible, then cool as well!!!!!

Right, here's what so. The winner of the most UK 8 ball, US 8 ball and US 9 ball tournaments in the next 24 hours can be considered champions in each game IF we don't have consensus by then (e.g. some top players coming online and slugging it out) then we'll look at the most wins, and most final appearances, or head-to-head, or something. Or if a tournament winner plays a tournament winner, great. Hell, I'd nearly go online just to kick it off... Hell I'd nearly go online, declare myself champion, and take on all comers!!!

Oh crap, I didn't define the next 24 hours... Was thinking of from midnight, but let the battle commence!!! Let's see who can come out on top. People, keep a regular eye on this and challenge the champions regularly.

How many times can the champ be challenged a day?
Does he have to accept the challenge?
Will he decline pro's and only play noobs?
Which discipline? (one would be easier)
Can a player only challenge each champ once?
(ie if you lose you have to wait til someone beats him to challenge again)

Perhaps newbies will have to wait until they are inter/adept.....

A great load of questions.

If a champ comes online then it would be pretty bad form of him not to take at least one challenge, or to accept challenges only from players with a proven record of being crap, i.e. players who are known to be neither skilful nor formidable.

The champ can be challenged as often as is reasonable; it's not reasonable to expect the champion to defend, defend, defend past his bed time or work time and then, when he calls it a day and is still champion, have people accuse him of not taking any more challengers just because he still hasn't been dethroned.
