I keep meaning to bring this up so may aswell do it while I remember.

Is it possible to have an adult chat room or 18+. Obviously current swearing rules would still be in place however the content of the topics would have more leeway. Where do I apply for planning permission to evict the squatters from the garage and convert it to the Hot Tub where adults can relax in their skimpies and enjoy the free bar? I dont mind providing the Neon lights and hawaiian music.

However, you might find the garage is already a more adult enviroment. If you would really like to have your own room with your friends, a better idea would be to set up a private game, and to invite everyone there. I don't feel your idea is an avaliable option! (However if it does become an option, can i come and sit next to you?)

Its not so much about people telling the truth about their age but more of a protection for the site as they can't be held accountable for those who lie. There's already adult insinuated talk going on in the chat room and members bar *cough* who'd do such a thing?! *cough* So at the moment the younger members are subjected to the subtle and not so subtle insinuations, whether they like it or not. It's not like the younger members will be left out as not everyone will flock to the room. Plus the garage sounds cold and unwelcoming o.0

Whilst I've nothing against an 18+ room, I disagree with creating one for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, we'd need to make sure that those who enter it actually are over 18. That would need credit card registration, and that means more regulating, programming and work.

When premium comes along, I assume a credit-card facility will be available, so maybe the room will be an option then. But my second argument is that it's a POOL site, and not a dating site, so there shouldn't be a need for the room.

I never said anything about dating o.0 I was referring more to content and general chatter. True it may be difficult to regulate, but so is the swearing/spamming/cheating/racism and other miss use of the site but it hasn't stop you trying. Plus theres the more serious side of making mature members feel welcome. Not all about being lude and crude. I believe there was a thread not so long ago about a person being told they were too old to be here and they found solace in asking if there were other mature memebers. Talk about hip replacements and flower arranging if you must, just thought it would be a good idea.

I do understand where you're coming from and it would indeed be refreshing to have somewhere to chat deviod of the "domiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" kids.

As Martin said, it needs proper regulation, which will be possible up to a point when premuim comes along (however, i would expect many premium users will be children who have had the access bought for them)

True, and I apologise for the inferrence, but lets face it, some people use it for just that.

Also, Spinner's point that parents will pay for their kid's membership is a good one.

How are we going to ensure that children aren't in the adult room? We can't.

So you are basically talking about the setting up of a room for adult talk, that children will see, which doesn't seem ideal on a family pool site.

Completely the opposite! We want to keep the fun IN funkypool. Its no fun if you have parents or in the worst case the authority's knocking on FP's virtual door.

There is also the case that the work Nick has put in to ensure the Funkygames work through firewalls etc could be lost if corporate and educational facility filter services realise there is a mature chat option.

At the end of the day, if you want to chat about things in private, you can PM, or even decide as a group to use a seperate chat service (there are plenty after all). Or of course the wonderful MSN option so many seem to like..

Oh dear, heavy debate.
Well the only way that FP wont be held accountable by parents or authorities is to set up some kind of disclaimer which members have to physically click a button to verify they are over 18+ ect. There could also be a verification process (much like pictures) whereby the adult channel is set to only allow registered nicknames to enter after being verified, so this stops random people from wandering in. Much like the +l channel limiter that you have on the rooms now. It might work if you must get an already verified member to confirm they have known you for a while and you are the age stated? Will have to ponder over the method I think.

This isnt about smut. Its about catering for older members. Just FYI. The rules would be the same, just a tiny bit more leway (really tiny). Also it keeps the mouthy, annoying kids at bay.
