well here's the idea people who haven't logged in for ages should have there user name deleted,i typed in a few random names in the player details box like stevo and outstanding and here's the outcome stevo hasn't logged in since Sun 06/02/05 and outstanding hasn't logged in since Sat 10/09/05.so in conclusion i think we should delete there names so people can have the name they wont when they sign up without having to compromise and make a name similar.if anyone thinks it's a good idea feel free to post.

People have said this before and i think Nick will be working on it in the future. When i first signed up i wanted the user "liam" which hasnt logged in since march 2004.
I agree with this idea and it really is ridiculous that people make an account only to not go on it. There is such a thing as playing as a guest so you know if you will play the game or not!

I disagree. I think it would take away from the '70,000 registered users'

I Think maybe the users that havent logged on in over a yr or more should be deleted.

I have been asking for this for a long time and it's a great idea. Many other sites adopt a similar system. There can be an automated email sent out when a user hasn't logged or for 11 months, warning them that they will have thier account deleted if they dont log on. Then after a year its gone.
This would work much better if also combined with changing the delete option to de-activate.
It would prevent the forums getting messed up with "Deleted Users", and if someone does change thier mind (as often seen) they can re-activate and have the same username.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean about taking away from the registered users Magic - they still count as a registered user regardless of whether the account is unused or deleted.
Indeed, anything that means users are more likely to get a name they like can only help increase registrations!

we have 70,000 users. From a commerciall prespective which sounds better?
We have 70,000 users?
We had 70,000 users, now we have 10,000

True. Never be able to keep a decent amount of sponsors ie monster.co.uk (over there on my screen the now -->)
if half of the registered users are deleted.
Also, i tried to just get the username colin, didn't get it. (Currently belongs to someone who registered on 12/09/04 and has NEVER logged in. I put the initial of my second name after colin, oh dear what a shame.
Not a big deal, and potential a big loss in advertising.

Ach, haven't had a debate with you in a while Magic!
From my experience it works more like:
We have 70000 users.
I see, good, how many are active?
About 10000....
As i see it, the registered users count shouldnt change, since everyone, active, inactive, or deleted, is a registration statistic.
I have a belief, right or wrong, that the removal of the straight-up delete option (making it easier and therefore more likely for people to come back to the site with thier name and record still intact) would mean those users could be classed as active, therefore potentially improving the site statistics from a comercial viewpoint.
