Has totally gone!

I switched on my computer as normal today and there are no sounds coming from it at all, no music or system sounds or anything.

Any ideas on what I can do?

Totally baffled here

Check the connections.Make sure it's plugged in right. I assume you have done this already. Check that it isn't muted from settings on computer.

All connections are fine.

I think it may have been uninstalled somehow if that is possible as in my audio bit there is only one choice and that is "modem #2 line playback"

<confused>

Heya stevo, seems like your sound card has failed, unfortunately I dont know a lot about this. Try checking if there are any problems in your system properties. Press the windows logo button (between control and alt) and Pause (at the right of the letters on your keyboard). See if you can find anything wrong there, the only other advice I can give is to find out what sound card you have and google for problems with it. Good luck with fixing it!

Faulty drivers maybe? Although with Windows it's likely you would get bluescreen quite a lot if that was the case, as it doesn't store drivers seperate from the kernel like Linux and OS-X do.

You could try a System Restore to a time you know the sound worked (in Start menu under Accessories then System Tools. just select restore to an earlier time and choose a date).

Spinner can probably help you more than I can though.

Weird. As System Restore worked, I'd say your problem is software related (i.e. some settings somewhere are preventing it from working) and there's probably no problem with the actual sound card. I'd need the computer in front of me to know what to do about it though.

All I can suggest is you double check your sounds and audio settings in control panel and reinstall any software/drivers to do with your speakers and sound card. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

You could try this to see if you have any registry problems like disabled drivers etc. that would prevent sound from working.

If you need help finding the right drivers for your sound card (assuming they're missing/broken) try looking here.
