i have always wondered how does the tournament decide who you play ?

Er, well, if you have a look at an old tourney you will see the structure. However i'm not sure about the first round tho. Looks randome but probably based on order of entry.

Can you even program proper random or just lots of selections?

a computer can create a random selection yes.. u dont usually program it as it is 'solid'.

LOL no computer can make a truely random selection. There are plenty of different ways of doing it (most people use pre coded subroutines as Dudey said), but Magic's right, its effectively picking something different each time from a defined selection.

But then is there such a thing as truely random.. (apart from Magic'sposts when he's just in from the pub!)
