Although its been mentioned many times on other threads, i thought it time (given the current popularity of the issue on both pool and snooker forums) to make a thread to debate this.

Basically, as i have suggested before, now that the stats re-set option is there, could we replace account deletion with deactivation?

So a user still has the option to re-activte the account for, say, a year, before being permanently deleted and the login name becoming availiable again.

The only argument agains this has come from those who wish to change thier names. Personally i am tempted to say think a little before choosing, however there are a lot of young people here yet to realise how embarrasing "leonafan" will be in 12 months!

Therefore i suggest that we all have screennames, which default to being the same as the username, but which you can change (a max of once a month though, or the mods would be overloaded).

Well?

sorry bout that didnt realise was on another name do like the idea of deactivation means u can not have to play on a major name but not have it stolen. ie if u dont want it as such anymore.

and an inner spinner? can i get an exorcism for that

spinner i totally agree with you about everything in your post but for a user who hasn't logged in for example 6 months there should be a email to inform them about there inactivity.

If people want to delete it should be up to them. Maybe something like a button that stops you from deleting if you activate it and this would put say a block for x amount of months/weeks but the delete is still there for people who don't. I think this would be good for mods especially incase of any security breaches.

But the thing is, there is really no point in deleting other than as a way of spitting out the dummy (since resetting stats is already covered)

Anyone who really doesn't want to play anymore will just stop!

i agree with you there forever_pure but the simple solution is to ignore and then that way it will cut down on the abuse.

Surely reporting the abuser and/or putting them on ignore is a much more practical method.

Anyone subjecting another user should be banned for good, no questions asked.

its hard. i no this isnt a snooker issue but a "respected" player in the past has given me abuse and i swear even if i reported it ppl wouldnt have believed me.

and if i ignore every1 that gave me abuse for being a girl and beating them id need a bigger ignore list

Remember though, its not a matter of believeing - all chat even PM's are recorded, so the mods can check back and verify whats going on.

Remember these people are scum and deserve to be treated as such. As for snooker, well, i've had some of the worst experiences there just in these last few days i've decided to get more into it.

Believe me, FP is the nice place to be

well i'm well over the 3 year mark too, and although there are times it really seems hopeless, common sense wins through in the end..

Basically, dont let the "naughty people" get you down, jst smile and remember that in a few years when you have your good job and nice comfy FP chair with the 42" screen, they will probably be bending over for the soap in a dodgy prison somewhere..

Life alway get's em in the end.. sometimes literrally!

Now, back to the subject.. well, you know my thoughts already!

However - lets ask for a sensible explaination (since that worked so well in the animated gifs thread!)

Why does there need to be a delete option if a users details can simply expire after a period of inactivity?

(note - this method works fine for, for example, hotmail - and lets face it they should be pretty optomised by now)

Ah but thats a big part of the problem this is trying to cure - no-one else should get the name!

Thats what can happen just now (as Mr_Mcquiston!) and it makes a mockery of things.

Give it a years inactivity and then the name becomes availiable, by which time there should be minimal chance of confusion between old an new user.

Thing is, at the moment, people who actually leave (as opposed to delete to reset or simply spit out the dummy) leave the name tied up for much longer...

im not just being arguementative i do see your point of view but i still like the delete button for saving that one year if u no u wont play on it. as i no one of my close friends has been told by mods to reduce the number of names on is ip address. if the delete button had been taken away it would have been impossible to do.

Not meaning to multi use on posting just not really payin attention
