English Pool Association official rules:
"The Break will be deemed a "Fair Break" if:-
At least one Colour is potted.
and/or
Four Object Balls (at least) are driven to a cushion.
If the Break is not a Fair Break it is a Non-Standard Foul and:-
The opponent is awarded two visits.
The balls are re-racked.
The opponent re-starts the game and is under the same obligation to achieve a Fair Break.
If the Cue Ball is potted on a Fair Break it is a Non-Standard Foul that is penalised by the turn passing to the opponent.
If the break is not a Fair Break and the Cue Ball is potted, the penalty for failure to perform a Fair Break applies. (see above).
If the Eight-Ball is potted on any break, the balls are re-racked and the same player will break again. When the Eight-Ball is potted on the break, all other aspects of the shot are ignored."
Basically, golden break shouldnt apply. Also 4 balls should hit cushion or rerack with opp awarded carry

yeah but these rules on funkypool are standard pub rules i could be wrong, and its funkypool so would be pretty boring to add these rules. However this is just my opinion.

Anyone noticed how pub rules change in each pub you go into....conspiracy.

There have been many debates about this, and the fact is these are Funkypool rules. There isnt a single pub or club where a GB wouldn't be counted as a loss or a re-spot, however it is here to encourage strong breaks as the standard methods would be much harder to code.
Have a look through the forum, i can gaurantee its all there for you!

Getting rid of golden break would'nt make it boring. Every pub i've played in you lose if you pot the black off the break anyway. Thats just because you cant get the balls back out of the table once you've potted them without putting more money in.
The other rule just makes people split the balls up more instead of playing a soft shot on the break. I'd say its less boring this way.

the code for rerack already exists. it just needs to be reapplied to the black going in off a break. of course im no expert so i could be completely wrong.
either that or just switch the winner so the person commiting the foul loses.
Whichever way you want to do it, its easier than creating two new tables.
Im just getting tired of people winning when the real rules say they shouldnt be, or people playing pansy break-off shots so i have to smash them up and then they clear up. (that or a never ending game of safety shots).
Well, I'm done with the moaning granny routine now. (even if we all know im right )
arrivederci, Mark.

Haha, not the re-rack code, the code for detecting if a legal break per standard rules has been made.
(note, i asked this a long time ago before the new break off structure was put in place - as i said, have a read of the forums, its all here)

then how do the balls rerack between frames in tourneys?
21:05 Wed 3 Jan 07 (GMT) [Link]
LOL i think you're mis-reading this dude.. The code required isnt the re-rack, as thats already there, its the code to detect an EPA legal break...
Got it now?

I know that. But all that involves in this case is whether or not the black is potted. There are only the two possible outcomes. Black stays out, game continues. Black goes in, re-rack. The code that detects whether the black goes in is also there, otherwise GB wouldnt happen. Just swap GB for the re-rack code.

Ahh. See what you mean. I did misinterpret your last post. But its still only the GB that needs swapping with re-rack in the event of the black being potted. The variables in the break shot are exactly the same (black potted/not potted). Only the result is affected.
Seeing as the re-rack code exists, as does the code that recognises which balls have been potted, surely only a little rearrangement is required.

But then there would be no incentive to break up the balls...

its just a computer game........ how far does it have to go to make people happy???? Take funky snooker for instance, there is no rule for 'free ball' if ur opponent fouls then pots the white or snookers you,or a foul if you need to name a colour and you hit another colour close by the colour ur aiming for to warrant a foul etc.
Theres more to worry about in life than funky rules in funky pool/snooker.
