Shetland is a part of Scotland purely out of convenience and not due to actual nationality.

The Orkney islands were "handed over" in times past to Scottish rule, however Shetland remains scandanavian.

This is reflected well in the fact that most Faroese or Norwegian speakers will understand Shetlandic more easily than a Scot.

Calling a Shetlander Scottish is like calling a Scotsman English! Ok for a laugh, but not advisable in a crowded pub in Yell
