I really dont understand whats wrong with giving someone a free t shirt with the funkypool logo on. Its really good advertising for the site, and its free! If you saw one in the street Nick, would you be forced into a citizens arrest?

There's probably a reason why Nick doesn't want it, though it would be nice if it was explained...

There's always the possibility that official FP merchandise is on the way, and obviously the FP logo is the property of the site.

As with any company/organisation/club etc, you protect your logo. If Nick wants to bring out official merchandise the logo should be for official gear only.

It's my fault, because I hadn't considered the issues of copyright etc when I started this thread, so apologies for not thinking it through (duh )

Martin made a mistake savour this moment!

Is there not a thing as using the logo with permission of the copyright owner or something, i dont know, just thinking of ways...or scaley prints some off...shows nick...see what he thinks...then maybe work together to make official ones.

Nick's read this thread, so I reckon he would have considered those options.

The thing is, we get everything else for free on this site, so we should respect FP's right to want to hang on to something that could be an opportunity in the near future.

Martin made a mistake savour this moment!

I make lots of them stevo - have u ever seen me play US8?!!

You have to look at this from a critical perspective.

Your target market is primarily under 18. I'd love to see the percentages of fp users in age categorisation. As we all know under 18's don't have credit cards! Adults would be far less interested in merchandise.
Realistically you might sell a handful of t-shirts.

Look at your expenses, you need to set-up a site and have enough security and facility to accept credit card. Of course if you were really going to do it you'd have to pay off copyright and licensing to Nick.
Revenue wouldn't in my opinion suffice this venture. HOWEVER! for Nick to undertake the project, even if he were just to break even he would have gained a nice intangible asset through the advertising.

Nick also has the benefit of already having a site which will very shortly take secure payments and is gauranteed to reach your target market!

phew, rant over

As martin_blank said it's about protection of the logo. Unofficial T-Shirts are made sometimes for things like football teams, but they still can't legally replicate a football shirt. Official merchandise will be coming along!

If you saw one in the street Nick, would you be forced into a citizens arrest?
If the owner is female I will confiscate the T-Shirt.
