Is it just me or do people hate it when you get called a cheat for putting "gg" before the game finishes because you thought they would finish the balls and win the game.

When i put "gg" i put it because i enjoyed the game, not to put people off their shot!

Does this happen to anyone else?

yer, i tend to w8 till it is finished now tho cuz i have had complaints bout it b4, saves a lot of hassle if u just w8 jj.

Yea, i'd brand it cheating, because you wouldn't talk while someone was taking their shot would you?

Of course you chat while the other person is taking thier shot - after all you cant when you're taking your own! People always chat whne plaing in real life and on here is no different.

"gg" means Good Game. Sure, many people (mostly newbies) associate it with the end of a game, but you can say "good game" at any time if the game is good! I often say it after a good defensive rally, for example.

After all if it was only meant to be said at the end it would be "twagg" wouldn't it!

I often get moaned at for doing this. I say 'gg' when the game is gunna be over in either the current visit to the table by the opposition or my next visit to the table after they miss.

This is seen as me putting them off by some people but the game is over either way whether they pot or not so it still is the end of the game so 'gg' is more than acceptable to be said.

Squeezy sorry i meant players that take their game seriously.

But whenever i play, obviously i chat, but there's something about that "gg" that just adds pressure lol.

I have to disagree Squeezy and anyone else whos attempting to justify this.

There is no reason why you can't wait until the black has been sunk, regardless of any good intention you may have had, or any bad intention you didn't intend.

You dont see a problem with it, others do, so why not just wait until the end, then the person can have no excuse. (regardless of saying 'the other person put me off by saying gg' being a poor excuse)

I dont see what the big deal is, people chat in a game and putting 'gg' at any stage during the game is not going to put someone off anymore than asking someones 'asl' or anything else.

If its such a problem for people just dont look at the dialogue box, and as for pressure which it may cause heres a thought:

Think of how it is with other sports, 5 mins to go in a football match and your side it 2-0 down. As a dissapointed fan you leave the stadium thinking that your side has lost. However sometimes your team somehow pulls it back to win 3-2! You have already left thinking you've lost but then you infact win.

This isn't frowned upon at all in football so why should it be any different here?

You may come up with 'so why don't you leave the game room?' My answer to this is that I don't run off unless I have to and would want to play another frame after that one. (If your footy were losin 2-0 but had another game after it you'd stay for the 2nd game 2 ^_^)


This post's trying to justify it instead of just saying the circumstances in which it happens ^_^

i dont mind if its obvious but when you have about 5 balls left its very annoying

In my experience most people who type 'gg' before the game ends does so as they expect to lose that game on the opponents next visit.

This may be to a poor shot or unfortunate miss but it is generally a testamony to the opponents skill and belief that they will clear any balls remaining.

So if it happens to you when your about to take your shot smile to yourself and clear up, and learn to take a compliment!

I think a lot of people are missing the point here! "gg" has nothing to do with the end of a game!!!

As i said before - "gg" means Good Game. You can have a good game without even a ball being potted, and whats wrong with saying so??

Sure some newbies might take it wrong but thats all part of learning the game!

But i see playerxs' point, i don't see why you can't just wait till the black is sunk! But each to their own!
As for ppl saying you can use it to describe a shot, you can use gs/nice move!

It's certainly not cheating, more gamesmanship. I always wait until the end of a game before saying it, but people who say it to try and put people off are plain pathetic. However, it shouldn't really affect you (as long as it's not in private message), although perhaps it does add a little pressure. In the instance that cityfan84 described, anyone who says 'gg' with that long to go in the game is a very sad person indeed and I would advise them to go jump in a lake.

But we're not talking good shots here - we have GS for that as you say, but its most common to say "gg" when its a "Good Game"! It doesn't have anything to do with whether the game is over or not..

However, i fully appreciate that any chat in the game window can be distracting, which is one of the many reasons why, during games, chat should be limited to PM boxes only. That way you wont be distracted from your shot and you only see what your opponent has written when it suits you.

(Unless you're one of the "pop up" freaks! LOL!)

In my opinion i take into account who the person is i am playing and whether they would take offence. However 95% of the time i wait till the end of the game as i think it adds pressure and you have to look down to see what they said and re-think your shot, i dont know why it adds pressure but it does and it doesn't help one bit.

I know what you mean I just played someone and when I was on the last two balls they started sending GG through the chat window constantly. Now that's annoying! I won like lol...

jjo123 i agree with u it is fine saying it if u think it is a good game yojimbo sed it to me and haydeez77 wen i was watching there tournament match i found it really mean how ppl say that it is distracting.

If they dont want to c it then they shouldnt look at the chat board
