... How???

Since Martin is bored this may be a lively debate!

I've always been puzzled since i was a little boy as to how people can be scared of the dark. Lot of my friends were, and some say they still are..

As i saw/see it : Its dark, you cant see anything, therefore no matter what may be there or about to happen to you, you cant be scared because you dont know!

Well thats the point! The mind makes em think that somethings gonna happen because they cant see! I love the dark though and find it hard to sleep with any kinda light!!!

I'm the same... It took me ages to sleep properly when i moved into a streetlit area, even with with ultra thick curtains!

It still dont make any sense to me though, i remember telling my classmates "even if there is something about to kill or eat you, its still pointless being scared cause you wont know till it happens"

Its the 'not knowing' thats what triggers it in peoples brains.....I love the dark, but theres always something in my mind that theres something i cant see, I love walking through graveyards at night (not that i do it on a regular basis but have done as a shortcut) and would love to spend a night in a haunted house or castle

I find the not knowing nice and comforting!

I remember being little and thinking "hey, i might not be alone here after all"

fair enough, some dont, some do, its why we are all unique and why our brains work in different ways .....
I suppose on the other side of the coin, people who are afraid of the dark wonder why people are not afraid.

tbh, i was scared of the dark when i was younger cos i had a wild imagination, and kept seeing things that were just shadows . now i look back and wonder what i was so afraid of, especially as i think i prefer the dark now!

Darkness is just the absence of light if you can't see it ... its not there is wot i think ... unless of course you can feel the presence of something there .. then your just paranoid

Paranoia can happen day or night tom, so imagining things at night IS NOT being paranoid its a normal pshycological state of mind.
Feeling a precence may just be down to the '6th sense', we all have it in our own way and it can be all sorts of explanations, from knowing you are travelling in the wrong direction to sensing things, simply because you have a 'feeling'

I've gone for a walk in a forest many a time with no torch at night.

WAS PETRIFIED!!!!!!!! not because it was dark but i was in the middle of lots of nettles and was wearing shorts at the time

I like it when it's dark, they can't give good evidence...i mean err! urm..its quiet cuz people are asleep

Also love laying out at night watching the stars... Amazing how common "shooting stars" are once your eyes have adjusted!

Still no case put forward by the scardie-cats..

i love watching the stars.....u hardly see them in urban areas with all that lite pollution, i went camping in wales in august by the sea and the stars were awesome and shotting stars were 1 after the other, people think its a rare thing ,but it isnt. Most stars are explosions that have happened billions of years ago and we are just seeing the effect and a shooting star is when it dies out.
I think so any way

Scardy pants where are you?? in a room with all lights on i bet

You seem to be the exact opposite of normal humans Spinner.

You get a 'good feeling' when someone beats you with a fluke, and when in a black dark room:

"I find the not knowing nice and comforting! I remember being little and thinking "hey, i might not be alone here after all" "

Oh - and your chat window appears BEHIND your pool table.

What colour are the clouds on your planet m8.

They're nice and fluffy and white Martin! I'm on the same planet as all the rest of you - i just pay more attention to it..

All those things you mention are simple logic. It's just human nature to be happy for someone if they have some luck, and it's natural to feel comfort in company..

I had forgotten about the "pop up in front of the game" thing! LOL! over 4 years now and still haven't seen it... maybe someday the wind-ups will come true huh?

Hmmm I used to have horrible nightmares as a kid lmao!!!

The mind goes into overdrive, and when I was small I found myself thinking of the worst, e.g. a movie I saw, crimewatch (lol) and things of that sort.

You know for a fact theres nothing there, but the imagination does wander a little lol. Hence me putting my face into the pillow as a child and thinking 'happy thoughts'. Now they're just women
