My favourite all time is Gazza, because when he was under severe media pressure over his world cup kebab, a pundit asked him:

"There are rumours that Glenn Hoddle gave you a long dressing down today Paul. Is this correct"

Gazza replied:

It has to be Steve Davis for me!

I remember watching him in the 80's, and he basically dominated snooker at that time. His official name was 'Steve 'The Nugget' Davis, but he soon picked up the unofficial name of Steve 'interesting' Davis due to his perceived boring personality.

I hated him for a few years, but then he made some classic appearances on 'Big Break’ that made me revaluate my feelings towards him. He was actually a very polite guy, and really funny at the same time.

What really sealed it for me was his transition to 9-ball, his best match being a 5-0 whooping of Earl Strickland. To me it’s like the old westerns, in that there's a new kid in town… and his taking no prisoners!

Go on Steve, do it for the old boys!!
