IP or just an account?

So an IP ban then, seems a little extreme for a first offence. However if they insist on doing it then IP ban certainly. Don't think this rule needs adjusting at the current moment, could be in future however.

There was a suggestion on another thread a while ago about simply blocking an offender from posting for a set time. Maybe these two could be combined.

Say after a set number of swearing offenses a user gets blocked with an email warning them that if they dont stop thier IP will be banned.

IP banning would be a better deterrent IMO.

On a slightly different note, i was a bit shocked to find "g_a_y" was considered a swearword. Seems a bit extreme one can get banned for discussing a lifestyle choice!

True spinner, a lot of the words blocked have inoffensive meanings. The nickname for Richard is perfectly acceptable too.

Swear filters are stupid, they can not distinguish between when the word is used correctly, or (as in the above case) as a homophobic insult. In the majority of cases it was used as the latter though.

Ideally we'd have 24/7 moderator coverage, but this is simply not possible at present.

I trust you would review an automatic ban to ensure the member wasnt accidentally swearing (as above)

I think the Funkypool team do enough without having to monitor everything!

Also the word 'slag' isn't starred out either

slags another one of those ambiguous words, which also refers to the molten waste produced in a blast furnace
