it doesn't bother me, of course you get trouble-makers but without them life would be very dull indeed!

Personally i find some members can be more trouble than guests.
Surely if you dont like guests...
Avoid the rooms guests are allowed in?

A good idea might be that when swear words are used, the filter kicks in, and replaces the words with *'s, nick could set it to automatically boot guests when they swear

But it would need to be a full IP boot/ban as opposed to them just being able to reload an carry on as guest<whatever number is next>

Do the guests get 3 strikes the same as users Magic?

Which is a really good reason to mute them in the chat rooms.

Guests chatting during games is fine. But in the chatrooms, it's better that those that are speaking aren't anonymous, and so accountable for their actions if they want to start being abusive.

i think it should be how it is over on snooker, no PM'in during games on winning ball's ect., no abuse in main chat window or in chat room, i think snooker is peaceful you get the odd irratating member but you just use the 'ignore' option simple as but, guest's should have there chatting ability removed altogether play as long as they want but, just remove there chatting ability...

Well i do admit, Guests are the main cause of trouble, with spamming and all. However, i agree with (B) as they should be able to chat. Whether that be to other members about the game, or even a moderator, with troubles signing up. Everyone who has lived on this game has had some trouble with guests, but that happens on every site upon the net, friction always occurs.

If we were to remove Guests ability to speak, how would they know that they can speak as a member. Maybe impliment a bit of text where we talk, saying:
"Members only have the ability to chat"

Recently we have identified this area as a problem and had actually already started to clampdown before this thread was raised.

We will not tolerate abusive guests and it can be an immediate boot for swearing, obnoxious behaviour etc. An automatic boot and temporary site block already occurs for swearing and spamming.

A few changes in place now include highly increased times for IP blocks for booted guests, with upto 3 months block. Additionally guests are not allowed to enter the game during peak times, which means that guests don't always have access to the game.

However if this still isn't sufficient (which it probably isn't) then muting guests in the chat room will have to occur. They would still be able to respond to PMs (but not initiate) and could chat in guest's game rooms.

k3v, yes there would be some text saying why they can't chat.

I don't think that guests should receive outright chat bans, maybe only as a last resort. I'd say the vast majority of funkypoolers' first experience of the game was as a guest, so as to see how it worked, etc and to see if they wanted to join. And that in turn might involve a little interaction with members to ask questions and guage the site. Maybe allow them to come on and talk for 5 or 10 mins and then block their chat facility. Also, perhaps a member wants to see who's online without logging on and being themselves detected.

Banning guests from initiating PMs seems like a very good idea to me.

Here's a suggestion: allow members/other users to nominate a guest (or member!) for barring. If the offender picks up, say, five votes, (or a certain percentage of those in the room, or of those active in the room) then they're barred from the room, or logged off, or whatever the usual punishment is. Don't allow guests to have the right to vote.

And of course the's the censorship issue. Perhaps members should have the option of how much foul language is converted to asterisks? So some members will continue to see **** but others, if they please, can see the actual typed word
