i dont understand byes!

i understand it when a player logs out and they get DQ and we get a BYE but...

there is all these other byes with nobody next to them or an opponent...why?

the way i see it is te people who have been given byes should play the other people who have been given byes!

cos in a tournament (for instace fa cup) a team does not get a bye.

Can somebody please explain this to me!

people are given byes so that in future rounds there will be the right amount so it could be divided, after all, we dont want 3 people in a final! e.g when the amount of players reaches over 60 to join before first round, a lot of people will have byes and will create a forth round. its kind of hard to explain but i hope i have helped :-)

yeh, say if 40 ppl enter. 8 will get byes to even it out to last 32 then 16 etc.. they are to even it up like farren said.

no problem, in smaller terms, it just helps shape up the torny.

btw, your not dumb, i never really heard of byes before i started on this site.

likwise, id rather play a good player 1st round and let the matches get easier....

actually it tends to be the other way round with your example of the 40 people entering. 16 people play to eliminate 8 players, and 24 ppl get BYEs.

i can understand why that was before, because (altho i havent got time to explain it all) it makes for the highest probability of the shortest total tournie time. but now that theres a time limit, surely it should be the more sensible way round. like someone could ask me whats the furthest ive ever gone in a tournie, but getting past the first round is actually no achievement at all, whereas it should be for less experienced players, whereas now by sheer force of nu,mbers youre guaranteed a place in the second round if you play a few tournies
