Metal is crap, every1 knows that, thats y it doesnt get anywhere in the charts.

The Kinks are quality, 1 of the best bands of all time.

thats a very stupid statement, the crazy frog got to the top of the charts, you would not call that good music?

Metal bands can play there instruments better than any bands you listen to, bands like the beatles were just the frontrunners to busted and mcfly, playing simple poor music.

I dont dismiss the kinks becuase there seen as uncool amoung my group of friends, im not ignorent and sad enough to do that, they are a good band, dont dismiss metal just becuase the charts (thats puts people like ja rule and busted for example top) dont have metal high up.

a big part of metal not being higher in the charts is because it gets poor exposure and there is no award for it a music awards etc.

I'm sorry but you can't call the beatles poor! Busted maybe, but how can you call the greatest band of all time poor? Some of their songs were simple, but effective. Look how many number ones they'eve had and how many songs they have written and SUNG, not shouted by some some idiotic metal artist who cant sing.

ok, point taken, some metal screamo sounds good to me though, you dont like it. fine, theres no need to call it crap though, thats just your opinion.

my point was some metal bands are very talented and while the screaming might not be to your taste, the flawless playing and singing parts are often excellent.

The beatles also explored complex harmonies and were the pioneers of multitracking and concept albums. Their early stuff was 3 chord rock/pop granted, but at that time, even that was quite unique the way they did it.

Their orchestral arrangements still to this day take some beating for thier originality as some ppl call pete best the 5th beatle, when really it was George martin.

To dismiss the beatles as front runners for bands like mcfly etc is a gross injustice to the band and a very ignorant statement, like most music, you have to take it in its own original context and not brand it with stereotypes.

The beatles were pioneers in many aspects such as:
recording techniques
concept recording
musical harmony within popular rock music
psychadelia movement

could go on for another 20.000 lines but ill not bother.

Music preference is based on taste and you cant dismiss a preference, but on the other hand you cant dismiss a music you dont like due to that preference

o god, phase you missed my point totally, the beatles were obviously a fantastic band, this cant be dismissed in anyway, the evidence for it is to great.

gava just dismissed all metal because he dont like it as 'crap', this implys its all badly performed and executed music, all i meant was you can do this with any type of music or band (Put it down), and i used the example of the beatles to show this.

yeh i got that, thats what my last paragraph means mate, no mtter what music you like, its just taste, and everyone is different. so just because you dont like a form of music, it does not mean that music is necessarily bad.

I actually did a dissertation on the discussion of wether there is such a thing as "bad" music, its an ongong debate but im on the side of their is such a thing as bad music but even that is a grey area, as its up to the individual to what they like to listen to and what they get from music.

one example is say metal music.
is it good because the musicians are usually frenetic and have fast complex phrases
or it it bad because the vocals are usually unintelligable

the answer will totally depend on what you enjoy personally and the debate will go on forever :)

Metal is crap thats why they are all nobodies, the only okay metal band I can think of is Guns and Roses.

agreed, the way i see it, if a large number of people like a certain type of music, then it cant be bad, you can however say certain types of music lack things that you liek to see in music. for example....
boy bands- dont play their own instruments, talentless?
metal bands- includes screaming which often is like you said
unintelligable, crap?
rap music- all very similar, talking?

im just repeating what you said i suppose, but i hate when people dismiss things becuase its not to their taste, ive been at metal gigs with hundreds and some with thousands of screaming fans having a great time enjoying the music, how can this be crap?

i say, listen to what you like and always be open to other types of music!

I'm open to other types of music, I can even listen to some classical music but metal's still crap.

I didnt think Guns and Roses were metal but I was in Virgin the ohter day looking at metal cd's to see if I liked any of them and they were amongst the metal category.

yer, but music shops dont tend to split things into enough sections, they are not metal.

i dont even listen to totally metal, i have a few albums from metal bands but i listen to music from several genres, i just like i said above dont like types of music being dismissed.

Well to be fair I do listen to different types of music to see what I think of it and I dont tend to like any metal. I do however, like at least some music from different genres.

Listened to it. Got nothing to do with what we're on about coz it's not metal. Not that good, can't understand have of what the bloke is saying. Tune is ok at the start tho.
